Colbert: 'New York Times Drops To Its Knees In A Back Alley For $20'
On Monday night's "Colbert Report," Stephen Colbert had fun with the news that the New York Times has begun selling display ads on its front page for the first time (for a reported price of up to $100,000).
"Bravo, Times! For abandoning your dignity and dropping to your knees in a back alley for 20 bucks like the rest of us," he said as he shilled for Sierra Mist.
"But frankly, I'm a little bit disappointed," he continued, "because the very first ad was supposed to be in last Monday's paper. It's supposed to be on the front page, and I can't find it anywhere. All I see is this exciting, front-page news about how America chooses CBS."
CBS bought the Times' first front page ad.
"Oh my God, 'The Mentalist' is the number one new series? What a scoop! I smell Pulitzer," he joked. "No, actually, I think that's three-day-old Krugman."
