I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell told reporters Friday that he enjoys his private life, and that he does not want a job with the incoming administration.

Powell, who crossed party lines weeks before the general election to endorse Obama, has said before that he is not interested in working for the soon-to-be president. Powell is currently an honorary co-chair of Obama's Presidential Inaugural Committee.

Can we forgive him for his ill-fated UN Speech...

Powell was given a date and dossier of CIA information ( edited by Cheney ) to present to the UN...

He HAD to give that speech and was not given the time to verify all of the data. He could not have canceled that speech. He had to run with what he had.

GIGO - Garbage In Garbage Out.

As a forigner i must agree with you, he simply did what he could with the material he was handed, the real criminals here is the one that gave him the papers.

Personally, I forgave Powell a long time ago. I still remember, soon after the speech, when he was being interviewed by Chris Matthews (or was it Tim Russert?). He was explaining the fraudulence that was perpetrated on him and on the American people, and his "handlers" tried to interrupt the interview by shifting the camera away from him, but Powell demanded that the cameras be put back in place and that he be allowed to continue. I also remember how the Republicans and their propaganda machine (Fox News) began to try to undermine Powell when they realized that he was not going to play along with them or be used by them anymore. When he left the Bush administration, he was slamming the door in THEIR face, and he never looked back. General Powell was never of the brand that this Republican Party represents. He was always his own man - except for that fateful day when he was so brutally used by Bush/Cheney - and he once again showed himself as his own man when he endorsed PE Obama ... not because Obama is black (as the small-minded would like to believe), but because he recognized in Obama the integrity that was so glaringly absent in his own party and in his party's candidate. In fact, I doubt if Powell even considers the Republican Party HIS party anymore.

Great post StillIRise.

And as for the title of this article, "Powell: "I'm not looking for a job," ----well, as far as I'm concerned he already did his job for this administration with his stunning and poignant endorsement of change via Obama.

He's retired now and doesn't want to come back. I wish he would though.

He didn't say he doesn't want to come back.... he is indicating the he is not huffing around or begging for work.....

I'll betcha if he is offered the right position...... he'll take it in a heartbeat.

And we're not offering.

You lying United Nations testimony-giver that got us into the bush war p*g.

Yeah, he gave information that was given to him by our great CIA who later choked on their tongues about the worth of the information. You act as if Powell did all the investigating himself. Everybody has a job and he relied on them.

He knew exactly what he was doing. He put a clothespin on his nose and sold a steaming pile.

Clueless comment. He read the speech given to him by his CinC like a loyal soldier would and stuck around trying to be the only voice of reason in the Bush admin rabble. He tried. For that I thank him.

Powell is a wanted man for war crimes. He is a criminal.

War criminal, Powell, needs to report in at the World Criminal Court. Job hunting is not an option.

Colin Powell is probably one of the better Republicans that was in Bush's administration that Obama can work with to make policy. I liked his endorsement back In October of Obama for president. I thought he said some great things about Obama and his campaign for the presidency.

Colin Powell is, and always has been, a good guy. His only fault is that he allowed himself to get thrown under the bus by a President he believed in. Just like the rest of us!!

He stood up in front of the world and lent legitimacy to the atroscity called Iraq and used his credibility to pull that over on the world. No going back on this one, Powell. You are forever the face that sold this war in front of the world, and I hold you doubly accountable, because you knew the what the deal was and yet you participated anyway. You could have resigned and been a hero, but you chose to play along. Somethings are just too horrific. If I were you, I'd lay low and reflect on how honorable people take a stand against what is truly wrong, even if there are repercussions that put them in disfavor. An honorable man would have done just that.

I agree. He didn't come back for a second term after he realized it. Even said it will go down as a stain on his record. Bush or Cheney would never admit to that.

Understandable, but our loss. We could use good people like Powell.

our loss, is there a position for people who lie us into war before the UN. He belongs in a cell with Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld.

Odd, no? Who comes out PUBLICLY to announce you don't want a job? Wouldn't this be more easily and effectively communicated directly between Powell and Obama or one his aides?

General Powell is a class act. He was lied to like the rest of us. He has served America well and Obama knows that, and respects him also.

General Colin Powell has served this country honorably for many years and he and his family sacrificed a lot over the years. He deserves much more respect than some are giving him. I think it takes a small mind to make silly remarks designed to do nothing more than insult.

This guy is the biggest fraud in all the land.

From his role in the My Lai massacre
to the cover up of Iran Contra
to blocking the acceptence of Gays in the military
to causing then running from the black hawk down disaster
and of course his speech at the UN being 100% the reason the press pushed for - and we went to war -

How many innocents died because of this ONE man?

this guy has been an enemy to all good, thinking democrats.

He will forever be remembered as one of the greatest man this country has ever known whether you folks like it or not. What he did for the PE when he crossed party lines and spoke the truth is just the least his many accomplishments. Nixon was a thief and a liar and even he gets a favorable view in history's retake of his time in office. Powell's only wrong was believing he could make a difference in a abhorrent corrupt administration. As soon as the writing was on the wall he exited. By the way I actually spent some time on p o l i t i c o before coming here and the posts here from the reich wings look pretty much like ours do. How sad we found this to align ourselves with them over......
