Charles H. Green: Madoff: Investment Fund, or Virtual Reality Game?
It's beginning to look like Madoff's business model had less in common with a hedge fund or investment management firm than it did with an online virtual reality game.

Vicky Ward: Take That Smug Smile Off Madoff Now
Even if Madoff goes to jail today, he still doesn't face indictment for at least another 30 days. The grand jury has been given an extension to deliberate -- and some of us are baffled as to why.

Sociopaths aren't selective. They are equal-opportunity victimizers.
"In response to questions about their financial straits, Wiener's son, David, said, 'Yes, my family's a victim. More so than anybody else. It's very painful." Oh really? Since when? This woman knew her brother, his lack of character and complete avarice yet she invested with him. I guess everything was fine, his greed and lack of conscience could be overlaooked, as long as her sociopathic brother made her very rich. I have less sympathy for her than for any of the others.
Madoff's sister Knows she is not alone !
This happens all the time..I am yet another sister that was swindled out~a "Family" money.
Luckily for her she has her health and some other assets to fall back on.
My case so called Brother waited until I was Ill/Injured and trying to recover.
For years My Husband and I/Daughter looked after folks in my family whilst my Older/Sainted Brother{my mothers words} nothing for noone other then Himself. Taking European trips/making the most of his career. In the end My so called Brother waited until I was injured swooped in/inagled all of the "Family Money" to be left to him/him alone. Brother, an insurance adjuster/rose to VP{ God only knows How many folks he swindled } knew just who/ what/ where/when to make his move.
He made no previsions for Our mother . He even came to the hospital my husband been taken ill from all the pressure mocked us while sitting in ER. At this point we knew nothing of what he had in the works/ just about ready to come forward . This was how dastaredly this man was My so called Brother Paraded around his Small town he lived in as a "Christian" person trying to start a Baptist church in the small community. While this is the way he was really living his life other aspect.

Well you can imagine sister sayin 'Bernie, I need to move in with ya at your mansion, besides you need someone to take care of it while you're in jail'.
What Madoff did was just unconscionable. It's hard enough to finally get your hands on a financial windfall like an inheritance or something of that nature, either without having to endure an Anna Nicole-like relative who fights tooth and nail to get what doesn't belong to them, or actually outlasting them in some ugly court battle. But to then be swindled out of your money and have it vanish in the pocket of some con-man must be terrible. I suppose as long as people have desirable sums of money there will be folks who are trying to get it from them. If it were me, in this economy, I would bury any inheritance I received in the backyard in a bunch of coffee cans.
Who comes up with this stuff?
So we are to believe that a man who ran a $50 Billion thats Billion with a "B".
Actually defrauded his sister of $3Million and didn't make her whole along the way?
All of this is subterfuge and there had better be full investigations into his entire family.
The odds that they did not know about this or more likely play a role in this scheme are very slim.
His sons were clearly running much of the scam, then flipped on him to stay out of jail and
avoid their own deserved accountability. Then there are the major brokerage houses and banks that
were knowingly involved in this fraud with Madoff.
You said it.
Her son was working with her brother for 30 years and she is portrayed as an innocent victim? Highly unlikely. I wonder how many jurisdictions she has money stashed in.
I hate this guy, trust me.
But how nice would it have been if all he did was take out the most elite of America's rich.
Don't forget, that women who ran HP into the ground, Carly Fiorna?
She got fired, and her golden parachute was 45 million dollars
what are you talking about? the CF reference could not be more random
Oh my God! How is she going to get the $100,000 a year that it costs to retain a membership in the Palm Beach Country Club? Guess she's just going to have to sell one of the other houses or some jewelery.
a) it doesnt say it is 100k/yr .. it says membership is UP TO 100k, that means up front. yearly fees will be much less, esp in a community that has homes well under $1mm
b) where does it say she HAS other houses?
c) where does it say she has jewelry?
the way i read this, "she has nothing"
If it wasn't found out that Bernie, the bro, had sent HIS SISTER, the one whinning now, over a million in jewelry, trust me, she wouldn't have said a word.
Nice guy.
Madoff clearly demonstrates the lack of oversight, regulation and complete failure of the SEC in monitoring hedge funds and securities in the United States.
MADOFF RIPS OFF DEAD BILLIONAIRE'S DOG
Leona Helmsely must be howling in her grave; her beloved white Maltese dog named Trouble who caused an international sensation when he inherited $12 million from the billionaire hotel queen lost his inheritance in the Bernie Madoff scam.
Helmsley's half brother Alvin Rosenthal who inherited millions and was named to take care of Trouble invested the dog's $12 million with Madoff while not investing a dime of his own. Lawyers for Trouble plan to file charges against Rosenthal for misappropriation of funds as the money was soley intented to support Trouble's luxurious lifestyle. A spokeman for Rosenthal said that he trusted Madoff because he was always very kind to Trouble when he would vist the Helmsley estate. The spokesman added that Trouble began to growl and foam at the mouth when he learned of the ripoff and that Madoff bankrupted thousands of dog shelters when he swindled them out of millions.
What is any bankruptcy but a failed Ponzi scheme? Big business, among others, piles on debt to finance operations, refinance old debt, and pay dividends, which brings them to ... recent events. And government issues bonds they know cannot be repaid unless even more bonds are sold to provide the money to pay off the maturing ones. We are surrounded by Ponzi schemes. The world is a minefield, like New York before the pooper-scooper law.
To anyone out there reading this, that sit's in a position to watch and witness embezzlement and fraud pass by you daily and think that there is nothing you can do about it, YES YOU CAN. Whistle-Blow their sorry asses, and document what you can and pass it through the proper channels. It takes some time to verfify and confirm, and find the key person who gives a damn, but Corporations are made up of many different factions of people, and not all of them are dis-honest and want to rip-off and manipulate those less fortunate. Integrity still counts, and IS rewarded, but you must have the courage of your convictions, and be prepared to show that your pride is worth losing your job for, if it means doing the right thing. Honesty and Integrity will win out, if you have the courage to fight the good fight. (Not just for yourself, but for everyone that is being taken advantage of..) Remember, anyone that high up on the food chain, that has to lie and cheat so much to be who they think they are, is living a figment of his own imagination. Nothing is very real to these people, except for the green they see in their wallets. They are easy to spot and catch, if the person watching their behavior has good analytical skills. Speak up!
The judge should be arrested.
He is giving Madoff all the time in the world to move money around and do his business.
Why could he not have made his ruling on Friday?
Ever think the judge and lawyers in all this, ALSO made money off of Madoff?? It's called covering their own and saving face.
