AFP:

JERUSALEM (AFP) -- US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was left shame-faced after President George W. Bush ordered her to abstain in a key UN vote on the Gaza war, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said on Monday.

"She was left shamed. A resolution that she prepared and arranged, and in the end she did not vote in favour," Olmert said in a speech in the southern town of Ashkelon.

There are a couple of sentences in an Al-Jazeera report on this story that look to me to be somewhat important to sorting out the truth of what Olmert claimed. Olmert claimed that "Bush [ . . . ] was taken off a stage in Philadelphia where he was making a speech." However, according to the Al-Jazeera report "Bush was in Philadelphia on Thursday morning and gave a 27-minute speech on education policy that ended about 10 hours before the UN vote and there was no interruption of the public event." So . . . someone's not telling the truth.

In my quick google search of the news on this news, I didn't see any other mentions of Bush's whereabouts, and whether they actually jive with what Olmert said.

Here's the link to the story just mentioned: http://english.aljazeera.net/news/americas/2009/01/200911402950253579.html

Didn't Olmert lose this past summer's election by an almost landslide? Did he not also resign and then promise to step down from his role as Prime Minister? What the hell is that idiot doing still Prime Minister?

Olmert is just another Saddam and Musharraf. And we should do to him, what we did to Saddam.

Olmert a foreign leader calls our president and tells him to tell our Sec. of State not to Vote in Support of a UN resolution, and then Brags about it.

As an American I am appalled and request an explanation from Rice , Bush and Congress should look into this.

A serious breach of Our soveriengty and a breadown of governance.

In the delicate matter of uttmost importance within Two or Three Wars and possibly a fourth one, to act in such a childish manner is unacceptable to any country let alone ours.

If there was ever any doubt that under Bush the United States has been an Israeli puppet, this is the smoking gun. The Israeli Prime minister is able to spit in the face of our Secretary of State and get away with it. Where is the outrage?

If there is any doubt who really controls American foreign policy, and much of the domestic policy as well, it should be erased. Israel, through AIPAC, has bought nearly ever single senator and a great many of our congresspeople, not to mention social outlets, newspapers, tv, movies, etc...and they do this with our own tax dollars sent to them by our politicians who reeive money back in perfect circle of enrichment...Israel controls America....and that is that...we should just accept that, and move on..

Who killed the blonde girl (God bless her soul like many other millions of girls and boys who disappeared and are not blonde) in Aruba is a much more important story than a foreign leader humiliating the USA, mocking us and bragging about it. The girl in Aruba story is entering its 3rd season in fox News with Gretta Van Monster as the story that takes priority even over a national disaster (actually only Palin can move in front if she's baking some coockies)

This tells you who owns this country and who decides for you what your positions need to be

A nice article detailing neocon agenda:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7825039.stm

"Prominent neocons destined to play a major role in the Bush Administration included Paul Wolfowitz, Douglas Feith, Elliott Abrams, David Addington and Richard Perle.

Neocon advocates in the media included Bill Kristol and Norman Podhoretz, while in academia, Bernard Lewis and Victor Davis Hanson were among those who provided intellectual heft. "

I am very concerned with this. why have a SOD if they represent our country? Who does the bidding of the US? I don't want ANYONE to tell our cabinet members what to do. They should be one with the country and speak for the president whoever he/she is.

I don't like this at all

Probably Olmert ragged on Condi because he is tired at having to deal with Cheney going over her head and giving him a bad time. I'm sure Cheney gave Olmert quite a talking to when he didn't open a second front with Hezbollah after the missiles were fired into Israel from southern Lebanon last weekend. You just know that Cheney, who is rumored to absolutely hate Obama, would like nothing better than to widen the Middle East conflict by bringing Syria into the mix in order to saddle the incoming President with a mess that derails his agenda. I'd even look for a false flag attack with an Iranian missile as well ,,, the Saudis supposedly captured some so the Administration would have access to them. Does anyone really think that Cheney is happy leaving the White House without his Middle Eastern goals completed?

And setting up the incoming President with a foreign policy nightmare is what the Bush clan likes to do ... remember Clinton and Somalia ... let's see what surprise occurs before inauguration.

I'm sure that if Olmert felt Condi was doing her job and keeping Cheney at bay he would have shown her more deference, but she isn't so it looks like he decided to embarrass her publicly.

NEWS FLASH: Chris Matthews just mentioned this story on MSNBC in commentary sandwiched into the Clinton confirmation hearings. Perhaps we'll see some serious attention to the story on the evening MSNBC programs.
