I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Sacha Baron Cohen had some of the most cutting, but hilarious remarks of the Golden Globes. Onstage to introduce best picture nominee "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," Cohen managed to draw gasps from the crowd, a death stare from Salma Hayek and a head shake from Sandra Bullock with his jokes about, among others, Charlie Sheen and Madonna.

He said in part:

"This recession is affecting everyone, even celebrities. Victoria Beckham hasn't eaten for three weeks. Charlie Sheen has been forced to have sex without paying for it. It's true. And even Madonna has had to get rid of one of her personal assistants. (pause) Our thoughts go out to you Guy Ritchie."

There were some haters in that audience!

They shouldn't take their industry so seriously - Even Cohen used a bit of self deprecating humor.

Funny.

That was funny!! He is funny and frankly, if there wasn't a tiny bit truth in what he was saying, it would not be as funny. Those who got their noses up and on the moral high-ground (including the audience who turned on him), please look around you - sitting among Hollywood, the whole town is acting and pretending, all about illusion and ENTERTAINING. Bunch of clowns anyway, lighten up.

I could not stop laughing!!!!!! Best part of the Golden Globes!! The crowd didn't laugh at Madonna joke because it struck a nerve. Lighten up people!! Besides Sasha is friends with Madonna, he was the limo driver in her "music" video. Can't wait to see his new movie!!!

That was funny. I think the crowd turned on him because they were reminded of how pathetic they really are.

After saying he didn't want any of her money. Sacha has been known to dislike Guy Ritchie. The gag was funny no matter who it was directed at.

For the last time, Sacha wasn't dissing Madonna. He was dissing Guy Ritchie. Sacha and Madonna are great friends for a long time. He has always poked fun at her anyway, in front of her, and she loves it. She is very well known to appreciate a good clean dig at her. She once sent Julie Brown a gift for "Medusa: Dare to be Truthful".

His humor plays better to a British crowd where irony and 'tongue in cheek' is better accepted for what it is and not taken personally.

True, but to be fair, I'm sure there are many Americans and people of other nationalities understand and appreciate his humor, too.

I like Cohen but I differ with his take on the economy and going to films. Maybe people in the past swamped the theaters during recessions as a means of escape but they aren't doing it today. Check the statistics. And that's okay. Movies star make enough money -- wow -- do they ever make money! However the average hardworking person might as well save a buck and wait till the film goes on cable. Half of the films made aren't cracked up to what they claim anyway -- so might as well be discriminating during tight times.

Ah yes, but then movies were affordable and meant for the masses. AND you got a double feature, a newsreel, a cartoon, a serial and swell music featurettes,

You are right in one sense. The days of the Roxie in New York with 9,000 seats at .10 cents are gone, and a lot of people stay home and watch it on video rather than pay 9.75 at the theater for a possible stinker, but ultimately people need to get out of the house. Teens tend to be more that way, and drive the traffic for the bulk of those movies. Adults show up for those big names, the "safe" movies where they pick and choose.

I stopped going because people can be rude in the theater. They talk while you are trying to watch the movie. Some people bring their babies to the movie and you have to hear the baby crying. Young teens are acting up throwing popcorn at one another and talking and talking getting up and down. Its distracting when you are watching. So I wait for it to come out of DVD and buy the movie bring it home. Its cheaper in the long run.

Yes, but that was then, this is now. They didn't have all kinds of stuff like we have now. Such as the internet, DVD players, torrents, video games, and many more. All these cost us money as well.

So when we have no money, we look at our stuff and say, "Hm... I still have those DVDs, so instead of going to cinema, I'll stay in and watch it on PC or DVD player...or I could play a video game on my PS3..."

In their days, it was mostly either theater or cinema. That's what I think, anyway.

I thought he was hillarious! He cracked me up. Especially the joke about the celebrities getting younger as they aged. Brad Pitt was laughing, even with all that botox. I would have loved if he went by himself. I still like him, but then I see Angelina, I remember why gets on my nerves now. I can't stand when they smooch all night. It seems so phony. I do admire the fact that he went alone to Chicago to see Obama win. He actually went alone. Rode the metro with the regular people. Angelina was too busy liking McCain with Clint Eastwood. Not only is she annoying she is a republican. Yuk!

I know her dad is a staunch neocon. But is she really a re[tard]publican? I could of swore she said that Obama would be good for her family during the general election.
