Roland Burris won his battle to succeed Barack Obama as the junior senator from Illinois this afternoon as Senate lawyers agreed that he met the chambers rules and could be seated.

"Barring objections from Senate Republicans, we expect Senator-designee Burris to be sworn in and formally seated later this week," said a joint statement from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Assistant Majority Leader Dick Durbin.

Legal... yes
Disturbing... also yes

While I agree that the Senate could do nothing to stop this, I can only hope that it doesn't turn out that Burris "paid to play" (which many sources say he did). I don't think he will be of any benefit to our state; we would be just as well off with only one senator, IMHO. His position will be more of a hindrance and obsticle to the interests of our state than a help.

Bobby Rush is going to be even more full of himself (and more full of s*it) now that Burris will be seated. It's, after all, a victory for those oppressed by r@cism... something that wouldn't have been an issue if he didn't make it one.

I could be wrong... I hope I am wrong and that he distinguishes himself by serving the people of Illinois well... if not, just remember that he was once comp-troll-er (thanks to SNL).
