I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Tracy Morgan

Tracy Morgan spoke on behalf of "30 Rock" when the show won its Golden Globe and had one of the funniest speeches of the night.

"Tina Fey and I had an agreement that if Barack Obama won, I would speak for the show from now on. Welcome to post-racial America! I am the face of post-racial America. Deal with it Cate Blanchett!

He added, "A black man can't get no love at the Emmys. I love you Europe!"

I love Dave Chappelle but Tracy Morgan has his own style of funny. Tracy is coming into his own the more the audience responds to his audacity. Last week's 30 rock is an example of how crazy they're allowing him to be. That show is one of the best and he's a very important part of it. So deal with it Cate Blanchet.

I don't get the Blanchett reference. Anybody help us out?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:13 AM on 01/13/2009

I'm guessing he's drawing the contrast because Blanchett is very pale and Anglo-Saxon unlike Morgan.

It was a random name thrown out by him for comedic affect. It could have been anyone in the room. It had nothing to do with Blanchett.

30 Rock is all about the inside jokes. I guess we need to dig for this one.

Tracy makes people laugh. That's his job. He brings smiles to the world. It doesn't matter if it's a few thousand or a few million. Anyone who can make a few people smile, especially in these times, is a gift.

I don't think some people get that Tracy is playing the role of a crazy, neurotic black man and his real personality is somewhat more subdued. Woody Allen, Larry David, and Albert Brooks are respected for their "neurotic Jew" stage personalities and I'm pretty sure at some time in their real world life, they are not ranting about every little thing leading to the holocaust. Why isn't Tracy Morgan respected the same way? Because we obviously haven't gotten past race, black stereotyping is still considered offensive which means we've come a long way but not quite all the way. Tracy Morgan is still blazing the trails of equality where we can all laugh at ourselves and each other because things are not quite balanced in race relations. To me comedy is a good litmus test. We can accept Don Rickles and Lisa Lampanelli's faux racism but not Morgan's faux 'hood cat.

Some of us get it.....others need to watch the show to get it...and then there are those who won't ever get it because they have hate in their hearts.

Wow, thanks I have to admit that this clarifies it in some sense, ie.... why I respond to the humor.

thanks.

What's with all the haters? Tracy Morgan is the man. Plain and simple. You know, for a bunch of supposed "lefties" on here, you all sure are uptight.

rolled my eyes at every Tracy Morgan interview before I realized... there is a thin line between his "act" and his real life. The many scuffles he has with the law are testament to this. I think his stand up reveals a lot about him. He's funny at times, and others you wonder if he's just playing up some horrific stereotype that people have come to expect out of him...

As I commented on Tina Fey's speech when someone took her too seriously, the best marketing these people can make for themselves is to get the audience to think that they are just like the people they portray. Keep us guessing whether its an act or not... Fey does the exact same thing.

This is entertainment, let them be entertainers.

This wasn't funny. I understand what his angle was, playing the stereotype and all, but it was just kind of annoying.

Tracy goes all the way back to his days on Martin. His humor is kinda cringeworthy for some folk. It takes time for white people to like the same things that black folk like. Katt Williams is very funny to alot of black people and most know who he is, but he is not mainstream yet. By the time he is mainstream, blacks will have moved on to the next comic. Music is the same way, it's cultural. Lionel Ritchie Commodores vs Lionel Ritchie/Endless Love!

"It takes time for white people to like the same things that black folk like"

LOL. That is the stupidest things I've read in a long time.
Oh, and Kat Williams has been mainstream for quite a while.

If we were to stop people on the street (in a non-major US city) and ask if they know who Katt Williams is and you probably won't get too many that do... Heck, I bet there are more people that know "A P imp named Slickback" than know Katt Williams and have seen his comedy.

He's not mainstream at all (and probably never will be).
