Appointed U.S. Sen. Roland Burris will be sworn in Thursday, ending the saga of his selection by impeached Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

Vice President Dick Cheney, in his role as president of the Senate, will do the honors for Burris about 1 p.m. Central Time on the Senate floor. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), the assistant majority leader who initially blocked the appointment, will hold a reception in Burris' honor.

The nature of politics requires the ability to move to the next level. Politicians are good at getting the public emotionally involved in issues. They sometimes leave those on the wrong side of the issue confused, angry, and drained of dignity.

Burris is a U S Senator for the State of Illinois. He will represent the citizens of Illinois.

The Democratic Senate leadership, Illinois Democratic leadership and the media have given Burris a high profile in the Senate. I would think Burris is now better known in the U S and around the world, than most Senators.

Against daunting odds, Burris has developed the aura of "David vs Goliath. There was a strong attempt to deny Burris, but he prevailed.

With the media hype and mis-information campaign against Burris, many did not realize Burriss is an experienced politician. He demonstrated that experience through his tenacity.

Whose payroll are you on, and do you even live in Illinois? Burris is an undistinguished politician who is an opportunist and, like his mentor Blagojevich, a narcissist as well. He couldn't even buy enough votes to be properly elected to office so had to rely on a shaky appointment from a guy who is as slimy as they come. If you are not an Illinoisan, you have little valuable input to give, since Burris' failings won't affect you at all. I expect nothing from the man, other than to warm the seat for 2 years, or earlier if (as I suspect) the true reasoning for his appointment comes out either in the impeachment trial or criminal proceedings against Blagojevich.

Oh, as far as 'Roland, whatever we can do' goes...

Dump him in 2010. That's the right thing to do for our state.
