Many publishers would like to forget 2008 ever happened.

Consumer magazine advertising pages dropped 11.7 percent in 2008 when compared to 2007, according to year-end figures released by the Publishers Information Bureau late Tuesday.

The drop in advertising accelerated in the fourth quarter, as pages slid more than 17 percent.

Too bad. Less pictures of 14-year-olds bodies , photoshopped with fake melons and hooker boots.

Many of the magazines featured in that picture offer what's hot in fashion--then regular folks like me look at the price of the clothes and think "are you kidding me?! That's a weeks' groceries". Or celeb makeup looks...where you leave Sephora with two items in a small bag, but you've forked over $200 for them.

I think if the magazines want to stay in business, they need to realize that not everyone can afford pricey designer looks, and the articles are the same old stuff over and over again...show me how to get an affordable look by shopping at say, Target, you know?! I've got three kids and bills to pay...so $5 for a magazine just isn't in the budget these days.
