But why is [Ald. Toni] Preckwinkle looking to leave the 4th Ward just as the Olympic Games threaten to tear the community apart? Just when the ward would need a strong voice to defend its community and extract assurances from the Mayor, she is pursuing a different set of priorities?

Of course, if she wins, her seat would be filled by mayoral fiat. Mayor Daley would handpick the alderman representing the community most threatened by the Olympic hurricane.
