Illinois GOP Rips Democrats Over Burris

CHICAGO (AP) -- On the day Roland Burris was sworn in as a new U.S. senator, the Illinois Republican Party blasted Democrats for letting the state become a "national embarrassment."

State GOP chairman Andy McKenna blamed Illinois Democrats for failing to pass a bill stripping embattled Gov. Rod Blagojevich of his appointment powers.

Blagojevich appointed Burris to replace President-elect Barack Obama in the Senate despite warnings from politicians in Illinois and Washington not to fill the seat.

The governor made the appointment after he was arrested on federal corruption charges and while lawmakers moved ahead to impeach him.

McKenna called Burris another "Blagojevich Democrat."

The following is an excerpt from an Associated Press article regarding the Senate's vote to release the second 350 billion dollars TARP funds. The vote was a victory for Obama.

"In his first Senate vote, Roland Burris voted with his leadership, Harry Reid and Dick Durbin, who had just last week been blocking him from taking his seat. Burris, Reid and Durbin chatted amiably on the floor and Durbin even polished Burris' senatorial pin for him."

It is a national embarrassment and I'm glad some one is saying it. Just don't get to cocky Republicans, we're still suffering from the other national embarrassment, Republican felon Ryan.
