Kristol Talks Obama Dinner, Brags That Liberals Weren't Served Food

I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Bill Kristol was apparently excited to have a hot meal with Barack Obama and his columnist friends, a welcome respite from the way he usually eats - in entrees that hurtle at high velocity toward his face, from Code Pink. The result? Kristol suggested that he'd "end up supporting [Obama] on some things," saying that conservatives would probably "split up in some interesting and new ways." Of course, that dinner with the President-Elect was supposed to be off the record, but somebody needs some attention, I guess, so Kristol went on Fox And Friends to let everybody know how much cooler his cabal is, compared to the "liberal" columnists (and did I miss the meeting where Maureen Dowd is a liberal standardbearer?), who had breakfast the next morning.

KRISTOL: Yesterday, he met with the liberal columnists. And they had a pleasant hour in the conference room in his office. They got some coffee in some styrofoam cups. We had a pleasant dinner at George's house, and they had some coffee from the machine in the office. But I wouldn't read too much into that.

Actually, you should read something into that: Bill Kristol is a status-obsessed starveling who responds favorably to a few pats on the head and some canapes.

Bill's the son and the heir of a boldness that is criminally vulgar and son and heir of nothing in particular. Billy's human and he needs to be loved just like everybody else does.(guitar solo to fade)

George Will? Really? I hope Mr. Will was not dispensing any economics advice, as he is little more than a propagandist for the ultra-rich. I also had to wonder if Mr. Will still employs "colored" service help. That might have been awkward. (Yes, I know the White House itself has had "colored" service for decades.)

blue_meanie, you've been fooled by some propa-gandists of your own... and it seems they're big0ted.

Your disparaging comments about George Will are unfounded. Let's see... perhaps he'll recommend these policies:

like Reagan's in 1980: across the board tax cuts of 25% (lowering the highest rate from 70% to 28%), shrank government, and lowered inflation which contributed to an economic expansion that lasted 25 years (highest sustained growth in the history of human-beans), and added 20 million new jobs.

or these policies:

like FDR in 1932: raising taxes, price fixing, restraint of trade, increased regulation which prolonged the Depression by 7+ years with 13-25% unemployment, but he secured a dependent voting bloc for generations.

He is, Mr. Kristol, in every way possible, the explanation and the essence of the word 'Smirk'. And....don't forget, he is also a man of teeny, tiny stature. I know this is childlike but....so is he!

can't we just encase Kristol and Coulter in concrete and find a deep wet place to drop them?

This article shows that Mr. Obama's attempt to buy some political capital among the "conservative" press worked. At least with Bill Kristol.

Good on him.

Over the last 8 years, we have been so thoroughly vaccinated against the idea of talking with our enemies, or even people we dislike politically, that President-Elect Obama's actions seem crazy. But this is the civilized, intelligent approach to governance and to conflict resolution. For the most part, Obama's more liberal allies will not be the ones filibustering or voting against his proposals; it will be the people who take the words of William Kristol and company to heart just as much as we take Obama's words to heart. If Obama has managed to create a better working relationship with those who don't see things his way, then his dinner will pay off in huge ways. How do we expect him to negotiate with Iran if he can't or won't negotiate with red-staters? Refusing to talk to someone is usually (and certainly, in the case of the last eight years) a sign of cowardice and insecurity. This dinner is one more example that tells me that our new president is not only intelligent, but brave.

I have a thought...maybe Bill Kristol was joking...you know, kidding around...I realize that good earnest liberals never joke and therefore it may be difficult to recognize....of course, I guess it is easier to find evil in everything someone you don't like says than to actually think about what they are saying..

I think you're half right, TC. When liberals hear 'conservative' and 'joke' in the same sentence, it doesn't occur to them that you might be cracking one - it's more common for Republicans to nominate their jokes for public office. And when I hear the phrase 'somebody told a joke in the White House' I assume it just means that Dick has given Dubya his orders for the day.

I guess liberals buy their own lunches while neo-cons get comped to motivate them to do anything positive. Check out the mindset of a "pay to player" in action. Kristol thinks he special for getting food instead of coffee. The goal of those types of politicians is to use their influence for personal gain so they obsessively measure perks as some sort of accomplishment or personal achievement while ignoring the trust people have put into them to do a job and be our servant. Don't we pay them enough? I guess not. They only get excited by what they perceive as personal special privileges without giving a thought to actually doing their jobs as public servants. They never plan to. Blago proved that this exists in all government parties. Parties are just a distraction from us seeing the truth about our corrupt government. Kristol put his foot in his grill for real.

Actually, I bet that George Will is writing off the cost of the dinner as a business expense.

Even when you treat them respectfully, they still gotta brag. Something a petty as food, when the world has no appetite for their policies. Of course they don't have a problem stuffing their faces. Everybody else that has suffered financially and physically, lost their appetites four years ago, when Booosh was re-elected by cheat.

I predict Bill Kristol will finally break down and start referring to himself in the third person in 2009, just like Ricky Henderson.

I have met several people like kristol, people that love to give the backhanded complment, or just the little snide remark.
After meeting these people I just made it my own personal judgement to just not go around them.
If I bump into them and am forced to speak to them I will, but I just try to avoid them as much as possible. kristol is one of those people I have no desire to be around!

Hey... I wonder what was on the menu...

Probably some ELITIST neo-con food like:

Fried Okra with hotdog juice
Deep Fried Badger Meat with aromatic essences of Basil and Scotch Bonnet Peppers

Bill Kristol continues to make preposterous assertions with remarkable confidence... considering his batting average. With a work product that is defective in both style and substance, Kristol's smirking mediocrity is exceptional only as proof against the theoretical advantages of selective breeding. We should be grateful. Contributing self-important banalities to 'Fox & Friends' is relatively harmless. Just think, he might have taken up meteorology.

Very nice post, that's exactly what I keep telling my conservative friends - their rank and file keeps filling up with mediocre talent at best, while they keep regressing into these dark caves of religion, "values", piety, etc., etc to hibernate awaiting their own Messiah like Obama.

Istead of focusing on what conservatives were all about - smaller Government, personal freedom and trust in entrepreneurship (though blind trust as of late!), their leadership still feels that somehow divisive politics will trump empty pantry shelves. Even the most conservative regions of America voted against the ilk that Kristol belongs to and not necessarily for Obama. Until the conservatives find a leader who's going to take them back to these core values, they'll be doomed by the leadership of mediocrites like Messr Kristol, Krauthammer, O'Rley, Hannity, etc.
