Pelosi Bemoans "Huge" Civilian Deaths In Gaza War, Urges Cease Fire

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced she was meeting with the Egyptian ambassador on Thursday to push for a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel in Gaza.

Pelosi, a California Democrat, called a press conference Thursday to discuss the economic stimulus package. Before it ended, though, she told reporters that she wanted to make a comment about the bloodshed in Israel.

Pelosi said that she recently placed a second phone call to Israeli President Shimon Peres to express her "concern that we had for the collateral damage, the harm to the civilian population."

"I called President Shimon Peres to convey once again our concern about civilian deaths on both sides. But of course the numbers are huge on the Gaza side," she said.
