Kevin Martin

FT:

Kevin Martin is to step down as chairman of the Federal Communications Commission to join the Aspen Institute, a non-profit leadership organisation, the US media and communications regulator is expected to announce on Thursday.

His decision follows reports from people familiar with the incoming administration that Barack Obama will choose Julius Genachowksi, a former Harvard classmate of the president-elect, to chair the agency.

Maybe the new guy will do more to make the internet available to everyone and to have our telecommunications work on a par with the rest of the world. We are way too slow, and expensive.

Along with the worst president in our history, comes the residual effects of being surrounded by the worst cabinet and the worst appointments in the world. Mr Martin was a big business corporate flunky, who ran his department like a totalitarian dictator who failed to represent the consumer.

YES! Don't let the door hit you in the butt. Make like a bunch of sheep and get the flock out of here. Make like a tree and leave. Adios. Don't come back and don't bother to write. You won't be missed.

Just like the end of the ruinous Bush administration, Martin's resignation from this monumentally important post cannot come too soon. From March 2008:

"It's no secret that Martin and his subordinates are suspected of putting pressure on career FCC staff to emphasize data or produce studies that come to conclusions that the Chair likes. The biggest blowup concerns a 2003 study on television that suggested that locally owned TV stations produce more local news than nonlocally owned broadcasters—distasteful data for supporters of relaxing the agency's media ownership rules. When the FCC did not publish this document, Senator Barbara Boxer in 2006 accused the agency of "deep-sixing" the report.'

Martin's incessant telecommunications push to deregulate media ownership, and by extension to dumb down America's electorate is finally coming to an end.

We are getting rid of this corrupt creep but the Bush administration has every Government agency peppered with idealouges that will not be that easy to get rid of.

And this whole move to digital is nothing but a home run for cable industry at the expense of the American people, The whole thing should be called off.

Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Let me get this straight. FCC chairman Kevin Martin resigned because he heard that the incoming Obama admin was throwing around another name to come in and head up the FCC? Here is my next question: Did Kevin Martin think that he would have been asked to stick around? Seriously? to even mention that Kevin Martin resigned is just absurd. How do you resign from a job you lost the minute Obama won? The headline should have read: FCC CHAIRMAN KEVIN MARTIN SAVES OBAMA THE TROUBLE, GETS THE PICTURE
