UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. — The producers of "Lost" say the new season will emphasize time shifting along with Sawyer, the repentant con man played by Josh Holloway.

"Lost" executive producer Carlton Cuse says navigating between the past, present and future is a challenge but the potential for exciting storytelling makes it worthwhile.

Cuse and fellow executive producer Damon Lindelof told a meeting of the Television Critics Association Friday that the character of Sawyer has a lot to do this season _ and viewers will see a lot of him from the start.

Cuse says there's even something in the show for people who aren't huge time travel fans. The first episode features a shirtless Sawyer.

The fifth season of "Lost" opens with a two-hour episode 9 p.m. EST Wednesday, Jan. 21, on ABC.

I can't help it, but Ben Linus is rapidly becoming one of my favorite characters. Even with his obtuse lying and ruthlessness I still think he's the second most important character behind Locke.

Ain't that the truth, an interesting fact is that Ben and Locke's mothers have the same name!

I've been on the ABC web site rewatching all the episodes since the first season. I can't wait to see what will happen next. The writers on this show are incredible! I'm just sorry it's the last season. Can't wait to see Jin when he meets his daughter.

Yay for more Sawyer! Now let's make sure they write his love story with Kate right. Don't mess this up, guys.

How is this a story? Every episode of Lost except for maybe the first season they were time traveling.

No, they weren't. Those were flashbacks.

Yesterday, I attended a Lost event at the Paley Center in NY. The event included a 20 minute screening of the new episode, a film of EW's Jeff Jensen interviewing Lost producers Lindelof and Cuse, a screening of the 2 favorite Lost episodes as voted on by fans and a panel discussion. To read all the details go to http://connectwithyourteens.blogspot.com/2009/01/lost-at-paley-center-panel-screenings.html

A good story has a beginning and a middle and an end. Lost has only beginnings, no ends, no resolutions, no sense.

yeh...and the end is in 2010.......we're still in the middle....

Faxus hated Fellowship of the Ring too because the first book wasn't the last book.

a good story is something that captures your attention and keeps you wanting more... Lost is the definition of a good story.

Lost has plenty of resolutions. If you watched the show you might know that. Sorry they don't answer ever question they give you before each episode ends, that's what makes the viewer wanting more.

The payoff for this show is the best out of any show. As 90% of critics would agree, this IS the best show on TV

I only started watching at the 3rd season. I quite enjoy it. And if you haven't watched it all this time then you don't know what's going on ... so it would be like me trying to say something about how awful ER is ... when I only watch a few episodes in the first season...decided I didn't like it and stopped watching. So...therefore the show must suck? Umm...for me to make such a statement would be a tad pompous of me don't a think? LOL

Great show but I hope Kate walks away from both Jack and Sawyer. Neither one of them are all that.
Love the mythology. It doesn't make sense but its great fun.

This is the BEST show on TV.

The best written, smartest show for smart people ever made!

S3 was a little slow, but overall this show will keep you guessing and you will feel very rewarded with huge payoffs and surprises of wonderful delight.

There is no better action, drama, or sci-fi show in existence.

Oh and it's Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse are the producers, not just Cuse.... I think Damon deserves most of the credit.

I also think Kate and Sawyer will ultimately be together in the end... are they Adam and Eve in the cave?
But not before Sawyer hooks up with Juliet!

Agree with you about Kate and Sawyer, and too, the remaining characters who we think died, didn't die, because as the island shifted, it travelled backwards timewise and all those who died have another chance to save themselves. Does that make sense? Guess I'd better wait for Wednesday.....

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:40 PM on 01/17/2009

no WAY! kate and jack are adam and eve! Sawyer will die by the end - just wait!!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:42 AM on 01/18/2009

ok i'll bite... what do you mean kate and jack are adam and eve?

LOST IS the BEST show on TV. The most brilliant writing ever, besides the slow start of S3 (and Season 1 was nowhere near as awesome as 2, 3, or 4)

This show is a blessing for smart people! If you're one of those people who are always predicting what's going to happen, you will not do that with this show, it will surprise you SO MUCH! and you WILL become ADDICTED.

this show has the BEST writers involved in tv or movies.

If Lost was a book, it would assigned reading to college students 30 years from now as one of the greatest stories ever told.

oh and I think Kate will end up with Sawyer, but not after Sawer and Juliet hook up.

The perennial problem ... suits vs creatives.

The writers wanted less and the studio wanted more, and sorry to say for me at times Lost suffered. I was attracted to the various characters and know at the end of the series I'll be caught on the re-runs.

I think the title was ... The Tale of Tricia Tenaka, my fav and laugh when I think about it, terrific stand alone episode.

Not to nitpick but it is "Tricia Tenaka is Dead" but yes, it was an excellent episode. I look forward to the story arc surrounding Hurley, I think his role is critical to the story.

but as a long time Lost fan....I remember all the whining about that episode because of it didn't do this or that....until you saw the finale that season and you could see one needed Trica Tanaka...

sometimes I think we all are just a little to impatient

I got frustrated with all the disjointed plots after season 2 or 3 and haven't watched since. Some folks on here sound like it may have gotten back on track. I'll tune in to see what's up.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:59 PM on 01/17/2009

I think a lot of the problem was the network shifting that show around the time slots, etc...if one sits and say...watches the DVD episode back to back...it doesn't seem all that disjointed...
