I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Soon-to-be Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's expected approval by the Senate Tuesday has just hit a small speed bump that could delay her appointment for a day.

Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn, the incoming head of the GOP's Senate campaign committee, has penned a letter to the incoming SoS saying he's "deeply troubled that America's foreign policy and your diplomatic mission will be encumbered by the sweeping global activities of the Clinton Foundation."

I felt tremendous pride as I listened to Senator Clinton’s confirmation hearing. She answered each question with intelligence, depth and grace. She has an infallible comprehension of the issues and an ability to transcend politics. Her leadership qualities were highlighted in a way that seldom occurred in the media during her Democratic campaign. I reveled in her ability to communicate a diverse understanding of global socio-political issues. By creating an Office of Women in the U.S. State Department, Senator Clinton signaled a new avenue of influence that will extend accountability for the treatment of women and children around the world, for the lives of children are inextricably tied to their mothers.

It is with much anticipation that I will follow Clinton’s accomplishments in the months ahead. My excitement is not dampened by the inevitable sexism from both men and women, and even a measure of personal jealousy at her success.

Leave no doubt, Hillary Rodham Clinton will continue to be a force to be reckoned with. I look forward to the leaders of the world, the majority who are men, sitting down with her as she speaks for human rights and creates a voice for those who are have no voice. That should make us all proud.

Cornyn is another shameless bitter rethuglican making a conservative partisan point. He knows he can only delay the inevitable, he just had to throw an unfair parting shot, very classy.

I think it is a good thing that someone is questioning Obama's vetting of the Clintons now, rather than after she is confirmed and something emerges that is an embarassment and distraction to the administration.

Too much depends on believing what Bill Clinton says and pledges. Why would anyone, including HIllary of all people, depend on that?

People so desperately want to believe in this myth of "Clinton Drama" that will say anything. Nevermind that Hillary's confirmation has been the least drama-filled thus far, compared to Geithner or Holder or Daschle (or, before the confirmation process, Richardson).

So, quit creating drama where no exists.

There are many progressives who have a lot of concern about the Clintons.
First, and foremost she has been caught and has admitted to lying about experiencing com bat in order to get the most powerful position on earth.

How about this:

I think Senate Hearings Viewer said it best:

__________________________________________________________________________

What about the Clintons' past connection (to criminals) like Ya Lin Charlie Trie (Immediately after Trie's donation to Clinton's defense fund, Trie sent a letter to President Clinton that expressed concern about America's intervention in tensions arising from China's military exercises being conducted near Taiwan. Trie told the President in his letter that war with China was a possibility should U.S. intervention continue), Norman Hsu (criminal that fled to China and friend of the Clintons), James Riady, John Huang, and Johnny Chung (convicted of bank fraud, tax evasion, and two misdemeanor counts of conspiring to violate election law) and the Clinton's poor judgement in promoting them, sponsoring them, having them to the White House many times, creating potential national security risks, possible conflict of interest (with China) and campaign finance ethics. Why is the Senate Confirmation Committee only concerned with President Bill Clinton's conflict of interest in his Charity Donors and not re Hillary and Bill Clinton's past political donors, obligations to China, and other obligations that may be a conflict to our national security? It is people like you who make the drama with your unfounded criticisms. Obama has created his own drama by not keeping his promise with higher taxes for the wealthy and lowering taxes for the middle class. I await with anticipation when the American people actually start to hold this man to his campaign promises--perhaps that day will come sooner, rather than later.

Obama is uniting the nation in a sense of hope and optimism even in these challenging times like nothing I and most Americans have ever seen.

You cynicism is truly incredible.

I can't wait for laws to require complete transparency on all of these SENATORS! They've worked with her side by side, they know she is an intelligent policy wonk and that she and Bill are two separate people. They've complimented her with high regards and yet they doubt. So which is it? The position of SoS is so high profile, how can she do anything without the world knowing! Sounds like bitter vitter pills!

wonketteRawks, "she and Bill are two seperate people." Of course they are. But we have been told now for decades by the Clintons that they are a team.... never make a decision without consulting the other. It was true throughout Bill's presidency, Hillary's Senate career, and in the presidential campaig.

So Hillary is SoS, she and Bill discuss all the details of Obama's foreign policy, and Bill, $hares it with his shady international busy cronies Aroud nthe world. And Billl advocate$ the perspectives of these corporate international interests with Hillary.

Scary!

Good grief - it's enough to turn you off Obama with some of these comments - like they don't trust his choice but support him.

What a joke.

GOP quit crying.

Spin. Concerns about the Clintons' DEEP conflicts of interest, greed, dishonesty, and thirst for the spotlight are not limited to the GOP. ""The vast right wing conspiracy" is a Clinton myth. Many thoughtful Democrats and independents have great concerns about the Clintons. It became clear to many more in the primary election that the Clintons are about the Clinton$ all day, every day.

I wonder how many times you asked for investigations into Cheney's no bid Iraq contracts for Haliburton, or the Bush lies that resulted in the murders of 1000s of Americans and 100,000+ Iraqis, or the Bush collusion with the oil companies.....Strong Democrat? LOL.

The only defense of the shady Clintons is always "they are no worse than Bush and Cheney."

The Democratic Congress gave Bush and Cheney a pass. It was a horrible display of Constittuional irresponsbility.

We are not in a period of CHANGE meant to correct past mistakes, not continue them.

The Clinton conflicts of interest have not been adequately vetted and should be before Hillary is confirmed.

If there was really anything in Bill's work that would disqualify Hillary from becoming SoS, then it would have turned up by now. All I have seen in reporting is speculation, not proof, not even a reasoned argument that the Bill's foundation will interfere with her work.

This is nothing but Clinton bashing. That is something I just don't get. The media, and more than a few on this site, make them out to be worse then Cheney.

Why do people hate the Clintons? NAFTA & WTO...grow up, free trade is the natural progression of our foreign policy and economy (not to mention it stops wars). I'm sure there is more, but I don't actually care enough to do research into people's irrational hate.

Well we Obamacrats did bash them a bit during the primaries, but that was when emotions were high. Now seeing Obama and Hillary truly working together for the nation is weird when we were almost divided over the two of them.

Concern among progressive Democrats and Independents about the Clintons began long before Obama emerged on the natioal political scene. It certainly grew over the course of the primary campaign, in which the Clintons imported Rove-style negative, dishonest, divisive political tactics into Democratic politics, to serve their own personal ambitions at the expense of the Party, the nation, and democracy.

Great enthusiasm about Obama and the future, and support for his leadership, does not require accepting what the Clinton$ have done and they are doing.

The Clintons have deep conflicts of interest based on Bill Clinton's international business deals that have helped make them mega-millionaires, have involved selling the influence of a former president, and have often been at odds with US policy on nuclear policy, energy policy, trade policy.

We have been told for 20 years that the Clintons are a team, always consult each other, and never make a decision without discussing it. So the shady side of Bill's experience is Hillary's experience too? The "vetting" of the Clintons has been handled for Obama by former Clinton aides. To be responsible, Congress needs to examine not just the agreement with Bill moving forward, but his past and current relationships for disqualifying conflicts of interest:

If the Senate Foreign Relations Committee has looked these apparent conflicts, they should make it known. Otherwise it seems to be more "wink wink nod nod " "the rules are for everybody else" political business as usual, not CHANGE.
