Michelle is a very beautiful First Lady and we should stop picking on the way she looks/stands/dresses etc. How would you feel if you had to stand up to millions of people and be critiqued by all of them and whatever you do/say/wear is noticed? She is doing just GREAT and we all should be proud of her and be glad she is in the White House and is doing just wonderfully.

I think to understand MO is to see that she does have style in fashion:

I do not want to come off as mean. I just want to say "your sense of fashion and your ideals are not mine" You no longer can say/set the standard of what is beautiful or define what it is acceptable in fashion.

I love the dress she wore on Wednesday. I can only imagine how sore her feet were, so I'll not comment on the flats

I like it too. Any idea of who designed it? Or if it's available retail?

The colors of Michelle's outfit and accessories, yellow and green, are next to each other on the color spectrum, as are the colors of the girls' outfits. Remember ROY G BIV? If you add the colors of Malia's and Sasha's outfits to Michelle's, you have virtually the entire color spectrum: Sasha (RO) + Michelle (Y G) + Malia (BIV) = a rainbow. What an apt statement and metaphor for hope and change.

To answer your question: ROY G BIV is the mnemonic that I used when I was a kid to learn my colors. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet (and variations). The Obama females wore these colors. I thought that it was apt that they created a rainbow. Peace.

Thank you Michelle Obama for making a statement about American creativity, design and craftsmanship. Many American designers, artists, and artisans are struggling in this tough economy. She's set a wonderful example by supporting American artisans. Let's make this the year of the American gift!

Okay Michelle, now hang that white curtain back up in the white house.

Bite your tongue, that was not a nice comment to make.

here's a thought....now that we have the first african-american president and broken that barrier perhaps we should look at other glass ceilings and prejudices...like for women.
then maybe we can judge them on their merits and accomplishments and not on what they choose to wear....just a thought.

She's an intelligent, accomplished woman who also likes fashion. A lot of us are like that, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Talking about her fashion does not demean her merits. She's still tops in my book.

As if that is going to happen. Look at what happened with Hillary Clinton. Everyone remarked on her pant suits that suited her so well. If you don't like something you make a comment. Personally I think she should leave off the frumpy sweaters.

I think that all of you praising her as the next "Jackie O" have very superficial and low expectations. This woman is Harvard-educated, driven, smart, and yes, beautiful. What she is not is someone who has been so involved in superficial "rich girl" things her entire life.

I don't have anything against Jackie O, but come on people. You're in a whole different league when you're talking about someone with more substance than style.

That said, sometimes she nails it, sometimes her outfits look a bit odd. I wouldn't have it any other way.

P.S. Barack is a bit nerdy himself, it's easier for men, you all wear the same damn suit!

I see your points, and I can understand someone not wanting or needing her to be a total fashion icon, especially since she doesn't seem into it.

That's still no excuse for poor posture, poor carriage, and gracelessness. She needs some direction, so that she can present herself and carry herself as would befit the wife of POTUS.

I've watched many of her interviews, I think she carries herself very well.

No wonder all my best friends are guys, women are catty, even when they do understand what I'm getting at. You think one of these days women can try to evolve in their philosophy toward their own gender?

And why anyone would object to comments about fashion, dress, style, etc, and then try to extrapolate it to mean something about politics, race, whatever? That is just chip-on-your-shoulder stoopid.

The lemongrass upholstered sofa outfit during the day was even worse than the awful gown she wore last night - bulky, too short, busy layers, and so tight that it made it look like she had pinchy bra backfat when she doesn't. Worst of all, it was NOT a winter color or a daytime outfit by anyone's standards!! (and WTH was up with that rhinestone train track around the collar??)

And those hideous teal shoes and pea green gloves! OMG.

The evening gown was a good color for her, but the wrong dress - a Vera Wang wedding dress Carrie Bradshaw rejected and put through the shredder. Or a torn chenille bedspread.

It made her look wide and shapeless. Barack was stepping on it all night, she kept having to (ungracefully) fuss with it. Bleh.

(As bad as both of these outfits were, the red and black bloodclot/Halloween bargain basement dress she wore on Election night was worse.)

She is the definition of 'statuesque', and needs smart tailoring.

Good stylist, pronto! And, sorry to say, she should look for a good finishing school while she’s at it - her posture is abysmal, hunched and slouched whether standing, walking, or sitting, and she walks like a farmer clumping through a field of mud, rocking back and forth sideways with each stride (Caroline Kennedy does this too, bleh) When she waved she would let her long arm SLAP! back against her thigh, I wouldn't wonder if she had bruises today lol.

The First Lady need not be 'beautiful', but posture, poise, and clothes do count, like it or not.

And show me where I said she wasn't beautiful

In fact, I said she statuesque.

And I'm not a Republican.

Defensive much?

What did you think about the concert day beige and black outfit? Just curious.

I thought the concert camel outfit was stunning, and perfect for her. Also the outfit she wore on the whistlestop tour; also the black and red tailored outfit on the cover of Ebony; also the famous belted purtple dress.

Why?

We are talking fashion, in reference to a First Lady, again. What fun! What other definition of a fashion icon can there be than to be the person whose clothes everyone is discussing! (I was a little disappointed that the inauguration dress was a bit staid, but, again, what fun to discuss.)

You people are kidding me, right? I mean, she may be a great person and all, but a fashion icon? I am not going to cut down anyone because of their looks but don't prop someone up as a great new fashion trend that, if not for the political hype, would not be able to pull it off.

You are right I do not think she is a fashion icon but that is what the media is building her up to be. Can you blame them, look at the woman who has been first ladies in the past 30 years. I think Michelle adds spunk to the White House and that is why she is being pumped up.

Her black and white number from the View flew off of the shelves. Her JCrew number from the Tonite Show has been a huge seller. Just because you don't want her to be a fashion icon, doesn't mean that she isn't influencing the fashion business.

Take you envy to Redstate.com and join the haters over there.
