Their faces and darker skins make them look different. They are routinely called "slave" by the majority, whatever their profession. But Iraq's black population hopes that Barack Obama's rise to the White House will mark a turning point for minorities not just in the United States, but also in their country.

We'll see. Remember each nation is different and has a different culture.

Nations can easily (& do) have more than a single race, culture/ethnicity! Race is only a part of a persons culture/ethnicity, not necessarily the largest part!

For those of us who've had an ongoin discussion about race, I remembered a program I saw some time back, ‘Journey of Man’ on National Geo . If you can ever catch it, DO!

Spencer Wells, a geneticist spent several years studying genetic markers worldwide. His conclusion is that basically man descends from the Bushman tribe of S. Africa. They are the descendants of the first modern humans.

Well, I accidentally posted before finishing! So continuation:

Here’s the link;

National Geographic News: Journey of Man

Spencer Wells, Geneticist; http://www.nationalgeographic.com/field/explorers/spencer-wells.html

I do still adhere to the 3 races of man + Australoids (being the "4th") due to science. Kinda like Dr Wells' science which is astounding!

The Arab slave trade took a lot of sla ves from both Africa and Europe. Unlike the European slave girls who were taken as wives and absorbed into mainstream Arab families as one of their own the Africans always remained as slaves / servants

This is not surprising to anyone who has seen the Arab world
They started the slave trade much earlier than the trans Atlantic slave trade and the Wahabbis want to restore it in Saudi Arabia saying that Moha mmed owned slaves so it should be illegal to ban slavery in Saudi Arabia.
The men were castrated when they were kept as slaves. This meant that while the overall population isn't high but there was a continuous demand for new slaves to be captured unlike in America where the slaves were encouraged to breed to get new slaves.

Plus there were a lot of white slaves under Arab rule too. The word slave itself comes from Slav the people of the Balkans who were taken as slaves under the Arabs.

no true the proppet mohammad was very poor and never owned slaves he had two men servants whom he adopted as sons.they worked for him for free.
and he promoted the freedom of slaves.
STOP LYING.

as for the wahabis, half of them are black,or have a black parent fummy enough.

and as for the word slave ( ABD) in arabic,it stands for all human being being slave to god..abdullah

the word for black in arabic is zinji

I saw a story on Iraq a couple of months ago and they showed brown skinned Iraqis who look like the man in the picture above but I just thought they had dark tans I had no certainty they were black even though I kind of suspected it (very interesing to find out there are black people there). You can probably find us in many countries that you least suspect.

I think it's disgusting that people will dark hued skin are made fun of or treated disgustingly in almost every region of the world. I don't understand how my people went from being recalled as the most smart and exotic people, to slaves of the world. Who started this "Hate anyone that is dark skinned" culture?? It's like a cancer.

It wasn't always like that. I have read many positive quotes from world leaders about blacks before the European colonization of Asia, South America, North America, and Africa. The slavery trade changed everything.

Also not all Black Iraqis immigrated to Iraq though slavery, although many did. Notice the close proximity of the Middle East to Africa to the map. There is a long history before slavery and after slavery. In fact DNA test have shown that many Arabs have of a significant percentage of Sub-Saharan African traits in their genes.

We Americans are very isolated from the rest of the world mentally and physically and we don't realize that humans have been roaming the earth since the beginning.

Interesting facts that most Americans don't know:

Did you know that Nigeria currently has 1 million Chinese citizens are living there right now?

Did you know that after slavery many Indians (from India) migrated to Jamaica?

Did you know that there is scientific evidence of African presence in the Americas before Columbus? Did you know there is evidence of Chinese presence in the Americas before Columbus?

Did you know the South African Lemba tribe is one of the "Lost Tribes in Israel" proved by DNA evidence? They have a trait in their DNA that is unique to people who are considered to be Semites.

We Americans have a lot to learn. Our schools have failed us and so has the MSM.

Time magazine even carried the story. http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1715337,00.html

I think you meant to say Southern Africa

Blacks of African descent are discriminated throughout the world. Obama's victory today is symbolic of the hope that all peoples of African descent share. This joy of promise Obama brings is demonstrated all over the world. As Americans, we used to be the moral leader of social and economic change. Perhaps we can reclaim that world leadership role we once had. With Obama, perhaps, there is hope for all.

I smile. For of course, we are ALL of African descent. And you are right, Obama's victory expresses the hope that all peoples of African descent share. Which is to say, all of humanity. For Africa is the cradle of humanity. There are those of us who migrated north and lost their melanin so that they could generate vitamin D more effectively. But that is just an accident of history. The humanity that we all share was generated in Africa, and we are all kin-folk.

I thought that experts have determined that the Garden of Eden was somewhere in Asia? Are you asserting that Adam and Eve's posterity left Asia, wandered to Africa, and then wandered back northward? Implying that our ancestors evolved in Africa is blasphemy that offends all 80% of Americans who profess to be Christians, whose religious doctrine (Bible) says that God created Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Which is it -- the Garden of Eden or Africa? We can't have it both ways, folks. Make up your minds.
