Hollywood heavyweights made their pledges to Barack Obama in the video below. Directed and edited by Demi Moore, it features celebrity pledges by Cameron Diaz, Hayden Panetierre, Laura Linney, Dakota Fanning, Jaime Pressley, Ashlee Simpson, Nicole Richie, Ashton Kutcher, Tobey Maguire, Diddy, Alyssa Milano, Marisa Tomei, Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette, and others.

From MySpace Celebrity:

Reflecting Barack's call for change, the film features over 50 of the biggest stars in Hollywood revealing how they plan to personally participate in keeping America strong, proud and green. The clip will be presented to our new President during his inaugural celebration.

"There's an assumption that this one man is going to take on his new job full-time and somehow wave a magic wand of change, and I don't believe that to be true," Ashton tells Reuters. "I think that we have to be the leaders, and that's not celebrities--I think that we as citizens have to be leaders of the movement that we want to create."

I curious as to how President Bush prevented all these people from doing these things while he was in office? Doing your part to make America a better place has nothing to do with who is in the oval office. This is just more liberal crap.

I think that it would be unfair to shut down Rush. That would take away the right to his free speech. You take away that and then one thing leads to the next. All our rights are taken away. Come on everyone wake up and smell the stench. Why don't you go back and read some history about what happened to Russia, Cuba and Nazi Germany ect. First they took away the freedom of speech and then the guns and then there you have presto. An easy bake Communist stink pie.

I am happy to see a new race in the white house but it shouldn’t be about race it should be about preparation and that his hopes are aligned with those of this nation. When he is signing an executive order, who cares what color he is. For all I know he could be purple with green dots. What he signs is more important to the common people. Please Hollywood get it straight. I DO NOT SERVE MY PRESIDENT, HE SERVES THE POEPLE AND I SERVE MY COUNTRY! HE SERVES OUR GOALS AND WE DO NOT SERVE HIS. I AM SCARED TO SEE HOW EVERYONE IS REACTING TO THIS PRESIDENT. It reminds me of what has happened with so many dictators, emperors and socialists. Scary time. We'll see what happens. I want him to succeed but if the people do not get tough he will continue to request servitude from all of us.

Who cares what rich celebs say about each other? This is distraction from the real issues we face, like being thrown out of our homes, having no job security, and no change in our health denial system which kills 18,000 people a year. How about theTrillion dollar robbery of the treasury that has no rules, no direction and is a reward for those who ruined our economy and already have become obscenely wealthy? The list goes on. We have a part-time congress with nothing to do but hold out their hands?FASHION??????. There should be hundreds of investigations and trials, assets seized, bonuses and salaries confiscated, and real accountability. How about red stripes and shackles? Theres a statement that's decidedly un-fashionable. Even our sleazy secretary of the Treasury-designate refused to pay all his income taxes after being caught the first time, and it's called no big deal. This is a non-issue

JOHNAGAIN: You are very angry and negative for someone who is so happy. If you are really so happy that Obama is president then follow his example to be an American, all united. Respect that we are all different, from different backgrounds, and agree to disagree. You don't have to agree or even like Republicans (I know at times I don't) but why hate them. They are still part of the human race and deserve some respect as fellow human beings. I may not like the way you are so angry and hateful but I respect your right to state your opinion. I am glad you are happy that Obama won but why gloat in that way. Why not follow Obama's example again and take the higher road and be the bigger person. The name calling does seem immature and not something Obama would be a party to. Despite Obama being a democrat, he is first and foremost our President, who has to lead and represent all people of the United States. He has to respect and work with all parties as our President. I personally hate the whole idea of party lines but understand why they are needed. I personally just want to vote for the best person for the job. I look at what they believe in not just what the party does. Not a republican or a democrat...just a hard working American and proud of it!

So, i'm curious.
Which one of the people in this video drove their hybrid to the inauguration?
Or which one of them decided not to attend but rather watch it at home.
I heard they shut down one of the runways in Dulles to make space for all the private jets.
And which one of them had foregone the premium seating at the inauguration and stood with the rest of us regular Americans.
Judge a man not by his words but by his actions. Hollywood is about words. Obama is about words. I want to see them live their words and not decide later to abort them. I want to see their responsibility. It was very easy before for them to criticize without having the responsibility to produce. Now they have to produce.

I pledge to continue to work hard every day...

even knowing that i have to give half of it up and half my life away to people who don't appreciate it... who don' think it's enough... who think i'm greedy an materialistic...

I pledge allegiance to the United States of America... No matter who our president is...

I pledge to have the courage to recognize evil...

I pledge to protect those who cannot protect themselves...

I pledge to be responsible in my criticism and always offer well thought out solutions... and not just change

"I pledge to smile more,"
This seems to me to be the penultimate expression of Hollywood.
However well intentioned - this promotion reeks of elitism and frankly true disregard and understanding
of those who voted for Obama.
We, the real folk, got Obama elected.
Not you, the Hollywood folk. You're support and money got you to the balls - we got him to office.

Wow! I'm sure they voted too. Most of them campaigned for him. They did their part, we did our part and we all got him elected. If this is the way they express themselves, which is beautiful by the way, why begrudge them that? Be happy, smile. It's a New Day!

I pledge to recycle more
Plant new trees
Keep my kids excited about this process
Volunteer more and
Smile more

and some of us non celebs supported the dnc to open up additional offices which helped to increase the number of democratics in washington; non celebs were educating americans on just how important is was to make sure obama would have the support he needed to pass measures through the senate and the house of reps.

:-(

I agree with you totally phillygirl, the comments about the rich celebs are in bad taste. Fame and fortune came to many of them through hard work and diligence and they deserve what they have, and it naturally makes some those who don't have jealous. They worked hard for what they got and no one can condemn them for what they do or don't do with there money.

The thing that bothers me is the fact that Obama is the focus of this video and that you needed this man elected to decide to start doing something you should have been doing all along. I have voted in 7 Presidential elections now, and even though my candidate of choice did not always win I always gave my time, money or talent to helping those in need. I think this is what upsets many of the people commenting here. Most of these celebs spent the last 8 years criticizing the last administration and really did nothing to help. Now these same people are trying to tell others to do exactly what they didn't do before, that is reach across the party lines and make this country a better place. They are bitter and resentful for that so I wouldn't expect that to happen any time soon.

During the last eight yrs no one asked them to do anything for their country. It was a greed fest that shook us to our core and we're paying for it now. When during the last 8yrs were we told we're in this together? We're all one? This is all of our America? Most of those folks up there have their own causes and volunteered already. It's just that now, I know you feel it too, people seem to crave change and feel that we are one and we're in this together. I've always volunteered, but I have a renewed spirit now. Feels great!

To all those who criticize celebrities and don't do anything charitable themselves:

Celebrities give to charity and work with charities all the time. The celebrity magazines are loaded with photos of celebrities' participation in charity auctions and service projects which truly do help people. And, there are many charitable programs helmed by celebrities that many people don't know about because they just want to help people anonymously.

What is so wrong with being rich and charitable? In fact, during these days of governmental budget cuts, we can't rely on the government to always help us (monetarily), and it helps to have wealthy individuals who are charitable and will give their time and money to supplement the government's economic shortfalls.

Don't criticize the change, be the change.

For those who are inspired to bring about positive change, find your passion and help make the world a better place.

For those of you who are charitable with your money, time, and or talent, thank you.

How about these ultra rich celebrities pledge to sell off some of their multiple homes, multiple cars, private jets, excessive amounts of jewelry and clothing, etc. and re-distribute that money to the "poor" that they claim to care so much for.

Is there some reason that people have to be 'asked" to help their fellow man? What kind of people need Barack Obama to ask them to do this? Common sense you could and should have been doing this without someone having to tell you to. What kind of sheeple need to be led by the hand to volunteer? It's the same as conservation. Are people that stupid that they can't do it without Obama telling them to?

It is not necessarily stupidity though having a charitable heart does take a certain amount of wisdom. It is unfortunate that most people do not come to community service/charity easily. Part of giving therefore includes motivating your family, friends and neighbors’ as these celebrities are doing. Sometimes we need to make it easier for others to give their time. Barack Obama has inspired many and that’s a good thing.

People were disallusioned and disenfranchised by these hard 8yrs. They're looking for a breath of fresh air and it's here now. So, if people use that and run with it, what's the harm? You seem angry that people want to make America a better place. That's not it is it? What's your real motivation? What are you doing to help? What is your pledge?

Is there some reason why these kooks couldn't have been doing this stuff the past 8 years?

Here's a pledge suggestion for some of you.

Pledge to give your cynicism a rest for 1 full day. Just give it a try... I dare you.

I know it would be appreciated here.

LOL! You might want to go over to the civility project. If you don't drink Kool-Aid, you might want to sit down and drink some tea to calm your nerves. It's a new day whether you like it or not. Help or not, make it better or not, it's your choice...we're all Americans. We chose to support our President and fellow man.
