Oprah Dines With Obama

Oprah

ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT has learned that Oprah Winfrey shared a private dinner last [Sunday] night with President-elect Barack Obama.

Oprah's close friend Gayle King tells ET the dinner, which she also attended with about 100 people at the historic Blair House across the street from the White House, was "top, top secret" and wonders how word got out. "You guys are good! How did you hear that? Boy you people are good."

"It was a buffet dinner, so everything you'd expect in a buffet was there - as someone who's trying to fit into a red hot inauguration dress, a buffet is not my friend," Gayle said.

Gayle said she wasn't sure what Oprah would be wearing to the inauguration on Tuesday, but added, "she will look stunningly gorgeous whatever color or designer she chooses." Gayle herself said she will be wearing something red from designer Angel Sanchez.

Wouldn't it be nice if Obama would stop vacationing, meeting w/ celebs, planning concerts, planning parties, etc and get on w/ the business of this country? I could see all this stuff happening if times were good, but things look pretty grim right now. Wake up call. Hello? Hate to say it, but Delay was right concerning how Obama should have chosen to be sworn in on few dollars at the White House, putting his actions where his mouth has been. Delay has no room to talk about wasting money, but it doesn't mean that his point wasn't on the mark. Getting sick of reading this stuff. And, yes, I am an Obama supporter. And who the heck cares what Michelle wears anyway? Does that have any relevance, except to the most superficial among us?

well stop reading it then. And he isn't president until today. Get over yourself.

Having "dinner" with another 97 people besides yourself and the two hosts is attending a party or reception. When it's just the three (or four) of you, then it's dinner. Still, I am jealous as hell.

Cnn, on Campbell, has four young Black children comment about Obama being President. PBS has a four black panel to assess this event.. CNN Larry KIng has a four black panel. Hello! BALANCE ! If you have listened to Obama, he is not a going to be a black President, , he is going to be an American President, for all Americans. How stupid is the media. This is an historical moment for black Americans and white Americans, for all Americans. Wake up to the moment news people! Don't be just looking at the colour of his skin! Tune into what Obama has said, the time, the event, the moment, the historical shift.

Thanks so much for posting this link! I was just watching another version of it last night on YouTube and laughing along again. What great news that this band has been invited to perform at the Inauguration - it's such a great feel-good song!

This is the other version of it that i love - this guy is having so much FUN!

Hey - do not grudge Oprah her success - please remember all the obstacles she has overcome.

Doesn't everyone try to climb the ladder of success - isn't that the American Way!

And Barack and Michelle Obama worked hard to get where they are. They deserve a little slack as well.

Oprah is a SELF MADE woman. She didn't inherit a dime, she created her own wealth. Any one from a poor background and many life obstacles, who can achieve her status is amazing to me and not to be begrudged. If someone begrudges her it is out of pure jealousy.

I would love to see us all honor our new president by showing more civility and kindness to each other. Blogs would be a good place to start. Blog posts insulting others don't seem to be in the spirit of this new time. "if you love your country, you must love its citizens." Let's try, dear people. Remember how often Barack said "We can disagree without being disagreeable?"

This also Dr. King's day. I'm moved when I remember what he endured....

Thank you for this comment. I am going to take the "higher ground". Some posts (on various stories) have upset me, but I am not going to let anyone "steal my joy" nor "still my joy." We all do need to follow Barack Obama's example.

Does anyone care? If I live the rest of my life without hearing another word about Oprah, I will be extremely happy. She lost me completely when she chose to wear expensive diamond earrings to the opening of a school in impoverished South Africa. What a slap in the face to those in South Africa that used to look up to her. She just can't help herself--she has to make sure that everyone knows she's better than they are. Pathetic.
06:30 PM on 01/19/2009
The diamond earings wouldn't have bothered you if she were a white woman. For some reason successful blacks get heat for doing the same things successful whites do. It's like how the president elect was called an elitist all through the primary even though he was one of the poorest guys in the senate. What people were really saying was how dare a black guy go to Harvard, how dare a black guy think he can be president.

Anyone so obnoxiously arrogant as to wear an item that costs more than some in South Africa make in an entire year is a person deserving of our anger. You made an incredibly irresponsible assumption when you imply that my comment was made from racism. Indeed, I'm sure that there are many--of any race--that agree with my feelings here.

Besides, how do you know what my race is?
06:51 PM on 01/19/2009
And what have you done to help kids in South Africa?

Your hate is apparent. Now THAT is pathetic.

I lived in South Africa for twenty years, love my country and know how my fellow citizens feel about people that have no sense of what living there is like for so many. Such an inappropriate display of wealth was simply irresponsible and unfeeling. I think it's time for you to relax, dear.

Sorry. Can't afford to be in DC. I'm working to hang on and pay the rent.

I'm gonna' take a stab and assume the other 98 people in attendance were celebrities that performed at the show on the mall. However, there were more than a 100 people in the show if you include the musicians, the several choruses that performed in various numbers, and the extensive stage crew.

As a person who spent several nights a week, every Saturday, and the maximum amount of financial donation allowed, for the 5 months before the election, I kind of get annoyed at the self righteous celebrities who think they alone elected the guy.

On the other hand, inaugurations are about people clamoring for attention. I am thrilled about this inauguration, but as a DC resident, I'm ready for everyone to go home and let us all get back to the business of running the country. It's a little out of hand and over the top.
