Jokes

Tuesday night the late-night hosts turned around a bevy of inaugural-themed jokes.

One from Craig Ferguson:

Two million people watched Obama take the office... There! In Washington! Two million people there! Freezing cold! I think Obama owes a debt to President Bush on this. The only reason the crowd was that big is they're all unemployed and they have the time!

I just watched this video again and it's just as hilarious as it was the first couple of times! I love how it looks like Obama is trying his hardest not to crack up

AM I the only one that enjoyed her poeM? the imagery was beautiful and accessible. THought it was way better than the Maya Angelou performance years ago.

THe last ditty was a classic "poem" from the civil rights. Ti's not really a poem; just a summary to people on their "place" in society...I remember this as a kid.

I liked Lowery's speech. At his age, he can say that and have us listen respectfully. A little comic relief and well timed. The rest was the fervent benediction required.

A poem can do many things, evoke a mood or an emotion, tint your perception, transcend the ordinary...all that and more. That particular poem did not match the tenor and emotions of the day, hence it did not hit the mark.

The hat...oy.

Hey poetry snobs! Lighten up!

Good poem......Bad poem,

Like poetry.......Don't like poetry,

Whatever!

I'm sure Jon Stewart knows that most poetry doesn't rhyme. He's not stupid. It was still funny though.

Bush jokes, Clinton jokes...

Gee, anybody doing OBAMA jokes?

He is the President now, you know.

John, you're comment about the poet was idiotic and demonstrates you're part of the problem, not the solution. It was a good poem and it was well read. and fyi, most poems do not rhyme.

Americans are so freakin dumb.

Sorry, that poem was awful. I can only pretend to be an east coast intellectual sophisticated liberal for so long. I thought the black preacher was hilarious though - more my style of literature.

Sometimes, it is better to call a spade a spade. That poem was awful. Poetry is beautiful if there is something to it other than prose. not a bunch of statements.
07:14 PM on 01/22/2009
Not an awful poem at all.....you may just be accustomed to Dr. Seuss, though while masterful in his own right is hardly literary.
