I Like ItI Don’t Like It

At the Neighborhood Ball on Tuesday night, 14-year-old Victoria Lucas challenged Obama to do "The Bump" with her. As the elated 9th grader told People the next day:

"He was just a very smooth, cool, laidback dancer. He was just like a normal person," assessed Lucas. "You would never think this dude earlier today was sworn in as our next president.

...."He's just an all-American good dancer. I hope I find a boy like that!"

Getting Obama to dance wasn't difficult, either. "I said to him, 'Let's start the Bump,' and he was like, 'Well, okay!' And we just started doing the Bump.

"It was the only dance move I knew that was good for TV. And I think we both had the basic movement going on and it just sort of fell into place."

This looks like a block party in formal wear - the Neighborhood Ball was a great idea.

I remember my mother and I laughing our butts off at Obama doing the 'bump'. That was too cute and totally unscripted. We also thought it would have been even more funny if Ellen were there so she could have a dance off with Michelle and Obama.

I like your comment. Lol! This was probably the most fun they had that endless night.

As for me I'm so sick of hearing, reading and seeing celebs in connection to Obama and the whole inauguartion celebration. So no, I'm glad there was no Ellen on the dance floor. The Obamas and "regular folk" are more than sufficient.

I really admire that Obama is secure enough within himself to get on the dance floor and have fun, when he knows that his every move will be fodder for the media. Finally, a well rounded, real man in the office of the president of the US.

I love this guy, that was funny. We may be looking at a grim future, but at least we can still enjoy the renewed spirit Barack has brought our country.

You cannot judge this man's rhythm based on his talent doing the Bump. It went out of style in 1974. Who cares? It was great seeing a president that parties with the people. The rest of them just stare down at the little people from their ivory tower.

Well, here's a white's thoughts about the whole thing. I am sure anyone will be scared to read it.

Excellent and insightful reading. People don't understand that white people can also be victims of white racism, and that it can be every bit as demoralizing, infuriating and terrifying as it is for any black person. It was really refreshing to finally see that put into words because white victims of white racism are never recognized. The wound isn't respected. History doesn't teach that whites were also beaten and martyred in the cause of Civil Rights. But we went through that together. We all suffered through it and were damaged by it. That's what made the inauguration such a healing experience for all of us. We earned this victory.

I especially loved this part when he talked about the hurtful racist joke he made that flopped:

"I learned that day that the recipient’s view on matters is more important than the intentions of the speaker. If someone says that something said sounds racist, we should listen to the recipient’s reasoning."

I've said the same thing regarding comments by white people that where racism is concerned, blacks should just "get over it". If you injure someone, it's not your place to tell the victim how much pain they should feel or how much time they should need to recover. The perpetrator has no right to tell the victim how he should feel.

Thank you so much for this link!

Very good. Insightful. That's what all the tears have been about these last few months. People have been treated as though they have no feelings. At last it seems America may be starting to understand the pain.

Ha! Too cute.

Is it legal for a grown man to "Booty Bump" a 9th grader?

Obama is smooth.

As long as he's not having sexual relations with the person like some other Presidents there's no foul here.
