Bennett: Limbaugh Wrong To Say He Hopes Obama Fails

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 02/27/09 05:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 02:00 PM ET

Bill Bennett disagreed with fellow conservative talking head Rush Limbaugh, who said that he wants President Obama "to fail." On CNN's "State of the Union," Bennett said, "The locution 'I want him to fail' is not what you say the first week the man's been inaugurated ... the rhetoric could be improved." Watch:

Socialist Agenda.

So many of our more conservative friends on Huffingtonpost keep shouting SOCIALIST AGENDA. No explanation, no analysis, just SOCIALIST AGENDA.

Would you conservative folk please tell us exactly what SOCIALIST AGENDA means to you? Please don't be insulted if we more "liberal" folk present an argument. BTW, I think we would all like to see any president and America succeed.

By the way, how any of you are willing to refuse your Social Security checks? Huh?

Or their disability checks, lawsuit settlements (obtained through litigation), government subsidies on their crops (if they're farmers), the free books and DVDs they check out from the public library, etc. We live in a 'socialized' society, whether these know-nothings realize it or not. What is most ironic is that the ones screaming 'SOCIALISM' the loudest, especially down here in the southern military welfare state, are always the ones benefitting from socialist policies the most.

The only difference between Bill Bennett and Rush Limbaugh is that folks like "Virtue Czar" Bennett must PRETEND to this reasonable-sounding version of conservatism.

After all, at some later date Bennrett may be called upon to sit on this or that commission and sound "reasonable" as explains why it was necessary to put the knife in.............which would be tough to pull off if he had been publicly calling for Obama's head.

For all the talk of bipartisanship.....it's taken about a week for everyone to fly their true colors.

You need not listen to Rush .......listen to Congressional Republicans on the stimulus..........then tell me we don't have straight up class warfare in the making.

Rush AND Bennett are on the other team.....that's right.....THE BAD GUYS

Limbaugh's just more honest about it

This comment board is highly cens.ored. Even for HP, this is one is particularly bad. What good is having a discussion board like this when there is someone, somewhere, deciding, for whatever reasons they have (unexplained to the rest of us) how the discussion can proceed? My comments here have been repeatedly cen.sored, and I've saved them. I cannot find anywhere in them profanity, personal insult, or anything else that would cause censorship according to HP rules. The only thing that I can guess is that someone doesn't like the opinion contained therein, and they are using their anonymous power of cens.orship to keep them from being viewed. We need a parallel HP discussion board, where people are free to express legitimate points, without the secret thought police having their way.

Yes, I've noticed that, as well. It seems completely arbitrary at times, and email inquiries to HP remain unanswered.

"The rhetoric could be improved" ?

This from someone who in the past went along unquestioningly when every tin-plate dictator from Noriega to Qaddafi to Saddam Hussein to Bishop on puny Granada, was called another Hitler? He never saw rhetoric he didn't approve of.

The FCC should fine radio stations that run such treasonous statements as what Rush said. Rhetoric, indeed.

well said, hareega! I totally agree. we give these idiots too much media coverage. Its best to just ignore them, because they want us to get mad and outrged so they get more attention and this is how they make living, selling books and making people angry.

I think its fair to hussle during an election and may the best man win. But once the elected president takes charge, its unpatriotic and unproductive to sulk and not want to support him and wish him to do well for us all. Obama has even shown that if h we unite he will listen to both sides and try to be fair. Bush never did that so many people were turned off. But Obama is so different, so republicans are stupid not to give this man a chance and not cater to him to get the best deals. Behaving like spoiled children and pouting is what they are doing. Just look at Boehner...it's laughable but also sad that we cannot unite under our own president and all help to make america better for all of us.

Ipanema says: But once the elected president takes charge, its unpatriotic and unproductive to sulk and not want to support him and wish him to do well for us all.

Blah. You don't even believe that statement yourself... you frequently have enjoyed the Bush-bashing this site offers.
08:28 PM on 01/28/2009
Decent patriotic Americans of all parties gave Bush the benefit of the doubt in the beginning of his first term and wanted him to do his job well for America. Serioius Bush-bashing began when he began destroying his own credibility with his lies and deceptions, not before.

I have to say I have supported republican presidents in the past even if I did not agree with all of their policies. I accepted as an american, that he was OUR president.
I admitt, BUSH was special because he clearly just did what he wanted and never listened to anybody but his cronies and big business who put him in power, and his whole administration was so apalling I could not feel patriotic enough to support him You are right about that!. I think this happened to alot of us...but dont you think Obama is showing good will , and reaching out, and if people are willing to be reasonable , he will listen to them, ...this bi partisanship just stands in the way of making progress, and unless the president does something very objectionable, then, clearly there can be dissent , but until then, we should stand behind him and give him a chance to see what he can do. Its clearly so different from dealing with a guy who just thinks with his gut...and never listens to any dissent or advice, is self serving and blind with power, and is never wrong!..... besides being stupid?.
Hope I explained this better K dog76, english is not my first language , I am from Brazil.but am an american citizen.

Some of you should take the time to read what Limbaugh really said instead of the old democratic
or republican talking heads taking 4 words out of a statement. These slick talkers know how gullible
70% of the public is, and they use it to their advantage Limbaugh made a complete statement on this matter, and it wasn't just four words that the crirtic's chose.
I personally think Limbaugh is far smarter than 90% of those in congress, why else would they worry
so much about him, his audience numbers 20 million a week, and that's what the crooks in Washington are afraid of, he exposes them to the public and that's a positive thing.
I have news for all you people I also hope Obama fails because he is a socialist and that's not my choice for myself or my family.
11:12 PM on 01/28/2009
Why don't you read it for us, so we don't have to?
01:59 PM on 01/28/2009
At this moment anyone who wants Obama to fail wants the nation to fail. He is our best chance for making it through this economic crisis. I am not going to be nice to people who trash him, even Democrats who want him to do more or do something other than what he's doing. We elected him, now we have to back him and if we disagree with him, email the White House and say so. Then shut up and keep working.

ObamaEdwards,

Don't be nice people, good thinking. I bet Obama is glad to have you in his corner.

700 billion of pork spending under Bush plus Obamas proposed 850 billion in pork on top of the inevitable deficit that will occur from less taxes being collected in future anyway due to the economic slowdown. There is no end in site to government spending right now. In a few years we'll be in more debt than EVER before in history. You'd think someone would have learned that massive debt, tax and spend policies don't work. Thats why were in this mess in the first place after banks and financials leveraged money on bad mortgages. Is there a business plan at all for how this money will be allocated? I'd like to see some charts with information showing how this business plan will work.

My goodness, D.T., where were you and your negative & divisive comments all of eight years? I would guess from your statements here, that you were cuddled up to your radio or television being mesmirized and taken in by Limbaugh, Hanity and O'Reilly. These liars I've just listed certainly were attached to their Bush tax breaks for the wealthy. In spite of their backing Bush Republican policies, there must be enough combined intelligent among them to know they were participating in stealing from the life and livilihood of most Americans. Not Important enough, I guess when greed takes over.

Have you noticed that the only people who dislike President Obama so far are Rush Limbaugh, Al Qaida t.errorists, Sean Hannity and a few other l.unatics on the far right fringe? This is great! God bless President Obama and God bless America.

Americanalien,

actually, there are stack of Obama supporters who are mad Michelle didn't where a dress by an African designer, there are those who were upset Obama chose to have the anti-gay pastor at the inauguration and there are those who are mad the war ain't over yet.

By the way I like Oama, I just don't believe everything he says or does will save America.

Keep dreaming... its not just about l.unatics as you put it

And where are any contrite Republicans who should be lashing out at Limbaught and trying to shut him up? There are any number of words and phrases any of us can say, but if you're in a crowd, you don't have any business yelling "fire."
