Oprah Blagojevich Response: "I Think I Could Be Senator Too"

Oprah

On "Good Morning America" Monday, Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich told Diane Sawyer that he considered offering President Obama's Senate seat to Oprah Winfrey.

"She seemed to be someone who would help Barack Obama in a significant way become president," said Blagojevich, who had been discussing a replacement since before the November election. "She was obviously someone with a much broader bully pulpit than other senators."

Lynn Sweet reports that Oprah was "meditating when she got the news".

"I'm pretty amused by the whole thing," Winfrey added. "I think I could be senator too. I'm just not interested."

"If I had been watching from the treadmill I probably would have fallen off the treadmill," Winfrey said on friend Gayle King's radio show.

Listen to Oprah here.

I'll go to my grave wondering what quality is contained within the rantings of Rush Limbaugh that attracts tens of millions of Americans, like flies on s-h-i-t , to listen to him daily for the past 20 some years. He's the quintessential blowhard....like someone you see every day in your neighborhood water hole who bitches about everything, but can't back up anything he says with evidence, and who no one ever pays attention to. Americans historically seem to gravitate to those with some achieved nobility...or at least perceived nobility...via noble actions, service to one's country, etc. But Rush offers none of that and, seemingly, has never served anyone but himself. His enduring attractiveness to the masses continues to perplex.

There's a pitiful amount of haters on this board.

I would prefer our congress be made of individuals who have actually given something to others besides going to work on the taxpayers dime. Someone like Oprah is so rich she couldn't be bought, any attempt would be insulting and therefore you could count her to vote strictly on the merits of what she's voting for. However, Oprah is the goddess of what she does and has more influence then any 50 senators combined.

On another note, w/ congressmen literally dying before they can retire it would be nice to see some term limits, get some fresh blood in there.

No Oprah. Enough is enough. At least Caroline Kennedy has the experience of a political dynasty.
11:38 PM on 01/26/2009
No she doesn't have the "experience", she has the lineage. big difference.

Egomaniac out of control

Oprah can be whatever she wants to be - cold hard facts for all the haters and jealous folks posting comments. She just knows better than to go into politics because she feels her life calling is inspiring others on TV - whether I agree with her views or not.

Glad to see her clowning a white dude (with a foul mouth)for a change.

No to Senator Oprah. No to Senator Caroline. No to Vice President Sarah who's the worst of the three, despite having been elected governor by the nutjobs in Alaska.

NO.

Oprah has too much ethical responsibility to become a politician. Talk about a demotion.
05:23 PM on 01/26/2009
And a huuuuuuuuuge paycut.
11:39 PM on 01/26/2009
ethical responsibility? really? tell us more centerline.
04:29 PM on 01/26/2009
You're absolutely right, Oprah. If Bush can be President, Hillary Clinton Secretary of State, and Sarah Palin Governor, you too could indeed become a senator.

love the picture. she's definitely channeling mary j. blige in that pic

No one is above objectivity. No one. EVERYONE has faults. No doubt she's a unparalleled success, a billionaire, and a great role model, in general. But if she's already the most powerful woman on earth, why take a demotion to be a Senator?

I was thinking more Chairman of the FCC for Oprah.

Mia, I obviously can only speak for myself, and I am not a O hater, but I have had enough of the O and I would like to see her go sit down somewhere and quietly do her charity work. I think she has become increasingly self absorbed and narcissistic. She is a ledgon in her own mind.

Sorry to disappoint but looking at the cold facts she already is a legend. Being A self made billionaire who is also one of the most prolific philanthropists of our times made it impossible for her to be otherwise.
