I really don't care what consenting adults do in private. Lying and hypocracy by public officials in whom others place trust is an issue.
It would be interesting to compare the percentage of Evangelist men who are homosexual or have been involved in some kind of homosexual or heterosexual sex, alcohol or drug scandal to ... say ... the percentage of openly gay clergy who have been involved in such scandals. I bet the numbers would be very telling.
In Haggard's case, it looks like the wife and the church both got screwed, and they didn't even enjoy it.
If a married man is continually sneaking around to see other men, it means he's seeking something that's inside of him. Mr., Rev, whatever you call yourself, you need to deal with this issue because you have a wife and children on standby.
He just needs to admit he is gay.
Ted,
I AM sorry that you are having such a difficult time accepting yourself. I understand why -- at least in part -- being white, male AND STRAIGHT in this society comes with huge advantages. Admittedly, those advantages are shrinking as our society evolves, but there are still some.
For the first time in your life, you are having to contemplate living WITHOUT those 'automatic advantages' The thing of it is though, most of those advantages are in your head -- NOT in reality. You'll be stronger and happier because of the honesty.
I know it doesn't sound like that's even possible, but it is.
If THAT doesn't help as much, try this -- are you helping or hurting those you profess to care about, including yourself, by delaying this? In order for this 'exercise' to work, you have to be TOTALLY HONEST -- no matter how much it may hurt or scare you. But that's the only way to get this pain to stop.
Remember, there are LOTS of people who have gone through this -- many in much dire situations than you -- and they, not only survived, but thrived. So did their loved ones. You, can, too.
Ted, you are gay. There is no amount of prayer in the world that will change that. As a Christian, I'm telling you to accept who you are and release yourself from this self-created hell you are living in.
Ted, quit hating.... yourself. God made you as you are. Let go of religious dogma and embrace who you are. And take responsibility and make amends. Time to grow up emotionally and spiritually.
Ted you need to slow down a bit.
Regards,
Keith Richards.
Dear Ted
I am sure you are not a bad or an evil person like some people are saying. I also believe that you have a good heart. What I am sad about is that you are denying your true self. You're a gay man. There is nothing sadder than someone who lies about who they are. If you are truly a man of god and a man who believes in forgiveness, please forgive yourself, be who you are and stop lying about who you are. There are so many things I've lied about and all it did for me was hold me back. Nothing feels better than being truthful with yourself. I know your wife loves you, but be honest with her and let her go to live her life. You are a gay man. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING GAY. I am sure your congregation will forgive you. If they are true christians, they will and I am quite sure most of them will accept you with open arms. You can't 'pray away the gay'.
It's your right to celebrate god and live a good life in his/her name whether you're gay or straight. As a gay man there are so many ways you can be yourself and still serve faithfully. You can only do that with an honest heart. Reach out for support. Be positive and go forward.
Good luck Ted.
Another example of a right wing ultraconservative religious hypocrite! So many sheep to convert, so little time...
Are white people embarassed by Ted Haggard??
See the Michelle Obama/Black Artist thread to get my point.
LOL. I love it ! ! ! ! ! ! Yes, how come when a black person does or says something stupid we (black people) all have to feel guilty? White people didn't have to feel bad about Jeffery Dahmer or Robert Blake or Richard Nixon. Those were INDIVIDUALS. Now, if Obama fails, it will be "racial implications."
Good point.
Ted -
Honey it's time. Come out of the closet. Apologize to the gay community for everything that you did. Leave that wife - let her get on with her life. Take care of your kids financially. Find a boyfriend who will take your f'ed up person. And let everyone move on.
If you want to be religious - spread tolerance in the name of Jesus.
But it is time to just come out and do what's right here.
It's also time for American society to stop blaming the victims. These men wouldn't be having sex with prostitutes or in the bathrooms if they were not forced into being closeted to fit into a homophobic society. Period.
Good post Eric.
I will admit that a small part of me is kinda feeling sorry for Ted, particularly since he knows that his orientation has not changed.
But that is tempered by the fact that not only has he lied to himself and his family--there is also those who he ministered to as pastor of the New Life Church.
So go on and come out, Ted. Take care of your family and be a force of good in the world as opposed to all this...drama that's been created.
Amen.
i guess there could be a spot for ted on "i'm a celebrity, get me outta here!" but it seems the man's goose is cooked, otherwise.
