I Like ItI Don’t Like It

The real-life romance that blossomed out of Oscar-winning indie "Once" is over. Glen Hansard confirmed he is no longer dating Marketa Irglova. The previous unknowns co-starred in the 2007 film and became international sensations, eventually winning last year's Oscar for best original song for "Falling Slowly" and getting a record deal. Since then, they have toured together, but now it's just as friends.

"It did become a real relationship," Glen tells the Sydney Morning Herald ahead of their three night run in the Sydney Opera House. "I think it was just a very natural part of what we were doing together. We had made the film (Once). We had gone through so much with the Oscar. Of course, we fell into each other's arms. It was a very necessary part of our friendship but I think we both concluded that that wasn't what we really wanted to do. So we're not together now. We're just really good friends."

Here they are performing "Falling Slowly" on Letterman in 2007:

He was a bit overbearing around her...he's too old for her she was barely 18.

i guess it wasn't a great sign when he used up their whole acceptance speech time at the oscars and she only got to say something when they brought her back out later; they were pretty cute together though.

There is a cute video of them the day after they received the oscar but I noticed that she said hardly a word though he looked like he was trying hard to include her.. It was the best movie and they looked so cute together but she is very young (and he isn't) and probably wants to become her own person.

Glen Hansard can hardly be considered an unknown. He's fronted The Frames (Ireland's best rock band, U2 included) for ages.

Sad news, but I wish them both well.

He was in "The Commitments." Not exactly an 'unknown.' if you've been paying attention.

It's sad to hear that they've broken up. The movie Once was magnificent. It's astounding that it was only made in 17 days. The soundtrack is beautiful, I played it in my car for a long time. "Falling Slowly" and "When Your Mind's Made Up" are my favorites...

Glen Hansard easily rivals Bono for being the one of the most pretentious people in music, and I'm Iris h so I'm qualified to make that call.

Excellent news, I didn't realise that my birthplace gave me judgement qualifications. Is it just prententious musicians and may I also make calls on begrudgers?

I still love this song and movie. Always will. That scene in the flick when they sing it still gives me goose bumps.

unknown???? uh...maybe in the U.S. His band The Frames have long been a critical success, with moderate, if not Paris Hilton fame. Sheesh.
She had her own career.
I am only saying this because this article makes it seem like the director found them busking in a Dublin street corner.

Romantic relationships don't always work out. Mature people can still be friends afterward.

Lovely movie. I had to get the soundtrack immediately after I left the theater. Marketa's voice is one of the most beautiful I've ever heard.

Best wishes to them both.
