Starbucks Corp., the world's largest coffee chain, will stop brewing decaffeinated coffee after noon as part of a drive to save $400 million by September.

The company, which last year started brewing fresh pots of coffee every 30 minutes, will have the caffeine- free version available upon request after 12 p.m., the Seattle-based company said today in an e-mailed statement. It takes about four minutes for a fresh cup to brew, spokeswoman Bridget Baker said.

The savings will be offset by the loss of business. I like caffeine first thing in the morning to get started, but look forward to a decaf at the end of my day so I can sleep well. Now I'll be heading to Dunkin' Donuts.

Is this the same ‘forward thinking’ that Ford used when the 1979 Pinto was named the Car of the Year as it came with standard 5-MPH explosion feature?

The flames were a safety feature. The car became a flare to mark the scene of an accident.

My theory is that dementia and Alzheimer's rates increased along with the use of decaf coffee. We now know that caffeine prevents plaque from sticking to the insides of blood vessels.

Starbucks spawned competition. My local coffee shop is better.

I bet if Folgers had set up coffee shops instead of Starbucks they would have cleaned up. I've never been partial to Starbucks brew. To me it tastes like liquid wood. Now FOLGERS .. that's the best part of waking up. Starbucks? Well, they've got some good Wi-Fi. Cokes in a bottle too.

If Folgers is the best part of waking up, how long have you been married?

Don't drink cheap coffee. get the freshest, highest quality beans you can- coffee is a medicine food, loaded with antioxidants and other good molecules.

Israel no longer has exclusivity rights on the Holocaust. Israelis and their supporters around the world must now share the Holocaust with the people of Gaza. The Gaza Holocaust is called the "Nakba" (Arabic for "the catastrophe") by the people of Gaza.

This is one company that I would not cry a tear over if they were to go out of business. You're an idiot if you NEED to buy a five dollar cup of coffee....

Where do they charge $5? I just paid $1.85 at this Starbucks.

You're paying partly for atmosphere, like the atmospheric females who come in here.

Why does every little thing Starbucks does/does not do get a national headline - who cares? I am so tired of the free press this company gets for any little change in their business practices.

I've never been inside a Starbucks. I'll never understand why anyone would pay that much for a dammnned cup of coffee.

The Starbucks customer service model is based on having a customer in and out of the store in under 3 minutes, yet it takes 4 minutes to brew a pot of decaf. I used to work there and my manager would lose part or all of their bonus if we were mystery shopped and it took longer than 3 minutes. How I hate this company.

Wow...If I'd known that... at the SB in Del Mar CA, I don't think I've ever gotten an order that quickly....

But I guess the walk on the beach makes it worthwhile....
