NEW YORK — Michelle Obama's brother is working on a book, part tribute to his family and part inspirational guide.

"I've been privileged to know some extraordinary people in my life," Craig Robinson, whose "A Game of Character" will be published next year by Gotham Books, said in a statement issued Thursday. "I've watched as my sister Michelle, a rock of a mother, became a leader in her own right. My brother-in law, President Barack Obama, who I knew from the first time I met him had something special, continues to inspire all of us."

Robinson, who coaches men's basketball at Oregon State University, introduced his sister last summer at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

Gotham is an imprint of Penguin Group (USA).

why do we even know him? do we know hrc's brother or laura bush's? the robinsons are too much in the limelight and they are cashing in. there seems to be a lack of circumspection.

mrs obama complains of attention given to her daughter then goes on to pose for the cover of us weekly and allows her daughter to be spoken out of turn by the jonas brothers. go figure.

You really don't see the difference between a grown man and two little girls? I won't even say the obvious, because I know it isn't true.

However, Michelle Obama's mother only got notice because she is going to take care of the girls in the White House and this is the first I have heard of the brother other than a casual remark. And frankly, a coach writing an inspirational book? Who would have thought? lol

Why not, I'm sure he can talk about many aspects - his great parents, what's it like growing up with Michelle, what he thought of Obama when they first started dating....go for it! Many say they are going to write a book first, so they can get the buzz out before hand. Free press.

What a great recruiting tool. Basketball coaches have books frequently too. Nice leave behind with a recruits family!

If I was Craig Robinson I would never announce in advance that I was writing a book. First I'd write it, then get it published and put before the public, and let the chips fall where they may. Everything any member of that family does is going to be scrutinized to death anyway.

I'll buy it.

It's nice to see a successful black man write a book and be a guide/inspiration to other black men growing up in America.

He seems like a good guy, but it seems like anyone involved in the 2008 election is coming out with a book, even Joe the Plumber has one. These book deals must be easy money

Time to cash in indeed. Does anyone know how many of Obama's books have sold since his election? There diare two books: Dreams of my Father and Audacity of Hope. I was at a bookstore today in Hong Kong and whereas there was a stack of books last week there was only a few left today. Obama will have made - and continue to make - millions from these books. Is he allowed to draw income from publishing while he is in office. Not taking a dig, just curious.

Yes, why shouldn't he be? It's his money, he earned it.

Yes, he's allowed to draw income from other legal means while in office. It's no different from other former presidents getting theirs from their business ventures. For example, during his time as US president, Bush sold his shares of the Texas Rangers baseball for $15.3 million in 1998.

The Oregon State University basketball team is currently posting a sub-500 record. It seems to me that "Coach" Robinson should be concentrating more on his day job as a b-ball coach than aspiring to be a "life coach."

Sure, this is a so-called "rebuilding" year for OSU, which has been down in the dumps for several seasons. However, Coach Robinson needs to win basketball games and then people will take him seriously as an author and speaker. Reference Phil Jackson, Pat Riley, and other b-ball legends who went on to successful "second" careers.

My goodness....the article is talking about him writing a book about family and something inspiring and all of the negative comments come flying out from no where about his coaching record. So what??? Go to a sports page to rant and rave about his wins or losses. Whether he wins or lose a basketball game has nothing to do with his possible upcoming book success. Give this man a chance...

I hope that wasn't his daughter on stage with the Obama's in Grant Park inappropriately dressed and whose hair was a mess.

When my brother met my husband, he too, said there was something special about him.

If it was his daughter why do you have to critizize. Maybe she looked that way to you. What was she suppose to do, stop the wind from blowing. I didn't see what you saw. Please don't critizize. If they're not critizing Mrs. Obama they're talking and putting somebody down in the family. Give them a chance. If it was the child, maybe she was tired. I'm sure there were days when you didn't look your best either and you weren't talked about.

Well you were one of a few. I heard several people wondering who that child was. A child's self esteem is pretty important in how they appear with others. Sorry, you must not be a parent but a stan.

WOW and she chooses the name Harriet Tubman an American Icon. Hmmm...I never knew she was such a critical woman.

Puleeze. No one is on a pedestal here so get over it. If this story was about Palin there would be a thousand posts. Give it a break. I heard so many people talking about that child and wondered who she could be.
