Who's The Hottest Congressional Freshman? (SLIDESHOW, POLL)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 03/01/09 05:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 02:00 PM ET

UPDATE: We've announced the winner, and it's Rep. Aaron Shock--a Republican from Peoria, Illinois. See an Aaron Schock slideshow and video here. Scroll down for poll results.

When members of the 111th Congress convened on January 6th, there were 65 fresh faces among them. Naturally, we've spent the last few weeks familiarizing ourselves with them, and after much voting, debating, and in-fighting -- or not -- we've made our picks for the five most adorable representatives.

Take a look and cast your vote below. Then let us know if we left anyone out.

Whatever the outcome, just remember: they're all winners here.

After much consideration and comment-reading and googling and link-following, I have come to the conclusion that two people not in this poll are the hottest - Martin Heinrich in New Mexico and Scott Kleeb in Nebraska. It's not fair how pretty some people are.

Am I cheating to want people not listed above to win?

I am tempted to vote in solidarity with Polis, the gay man from Colorado, but I think I'll have to go with either Himes or Schock based upon aesthetics alone. I truly feel dismay over that R next to Schock's name, however.... It's skewing my objectivity.

My balloting conflict has led to at least one positive outcome: I now realize that if I am going to get screwed by a politician, I want it to be a BEAUTIFUL politician, rather than all these old white conservative Republican trolls that I've been subjected to for the past few centuries. Are the American people finally going to wake up and correct this imbalance? The set of dudes above is a good start!

With all due respect, isn't this a little sexist, and precisely the kind of thing men have been chastised for doing for so long? Why is there now a double standard? Is that why we white males have gone for affirmative action, so women and minorities can desciminate against, and sexually harass us??

And you wonder why the county is in so much trouble, when these are the sorts o stories that the media concerns itself with.

Polis has a nice, friendly smile (great teeth!) and an extra pound or two never hurts. If he has any chest hair at all, he's perfect.

Liberals are more concerned about looks than ability. the opposite of Martin Luther King's view.

Let's put that rocket scientist Sarah Palin up against anyone in the current Cabinet to see if you have anything like a point.

that is so odd! he would have won in a landslide. def hotter than shock, i wonder why he wasn't included?
06:56 PM on 01/31/2009
I dig everyone. I would go for Aaron Schock, with some trepidations because of Chicago Political machines. I sincerely hope, as a member of Generation Y, he will be in a different mold.

New Mexico's Martin Heinrich is a freshman Democratic Congressman from Congressional District 1 in Albuquerque. He defeated Steve Pearce, a very conservative Republican from the southern district. Heather Wilson had previous held the CD 1 seat. This seat has been in Republican hands since it was created in the 50s--1st time ever in Democratic hands. Congressman Heinrich is very smart and a quick study. He's married with two young sons. I cannot believe he was passed over for nomination as best looking because he is. He will do New Mexico proud.

Did you not see Martin Heinrich of New Mexico? Heinrich was voted the hottest man in US politics a few years ago when he was a city councilman in Albuquerque.
