NEW YORK (Reuters) - Why do CEOs need extravagant perks even when they are firing staff and pleading for taxpayer bailouts? It may just be in their makeup, experts say.

It takes arrogance and narcissism to become leader of a Fortune 500 company. Those same traits, however, have become their undoing during the deepest recession in decades.

I think we all have the same level of Greed. The difference is in our priorities. Those that feel a need to work for humankind for little money, place that need above their need for money. To want something badly is greed. It doesn't matter if its money, fame, or self actualization. It means a strong desire to have it all.
A I also learned 40 years ago about greed when I was selling houses. I was 18 years old. Those honest , nice people suddenly became greedy and dishonest when they were dealing with a large sum of money. It was amazing. A little money, people are nice. Given the opportunity to have really large amounts of cash, most people turn into greedy SOB's. Fact of life.

It is not my fault, it is because of my DNA. I did not want to steal the money and layoff the employees but I can not help myself.

Well, it is in MY DNA to be need to eat, desire shelter from the weather, and I also happy to "like my toys" too. eesh.

Frankly, I don't give a frak if they are "naturally" narcisstic or feel self-important. They need to be knocked down and our money returned to us.

Many people suffer from these few narcisstic and self-important @ssh0les. Do you really think that I'm going to have any amount of empathy for these people?

The tone of that writing, and the content of course, paints a very plausible picture. But i say its pretty much garbage. There is nothing special or unique about the people who are taking advantage of every single person who pays taxes in this country; Richard Thain and the rest of the investment firm CEOs have a higher than average sense of greed, which was obviously allowed to run rampant, unchecked by regulation. Many people, with the means and drive to get ever more rich, will employ those means to an end. Standard human nature, to take such an advantage. That is not to excuse them, by any means; what does seperate us from the rest of the animal kingdom is that we have the conscious ability to follow other paths than those that pure instinct may guide us towards.

thats right. Call it DNA and unavoidable, and we all suppose to feel sorry for them because they have a greed disability. What will they try next to get out of this.

Paychological explanations are so much bunk. Steve Thiel had it right. There is no accountable. The members of the governing boards are all inter-connected and overlapping. They are paid well for doing little and asking no questions as the CEO runs roughshed over the organization and share holder interests.
American Wall Street sponsored capitalism has gotten this country in a hole because wealth and power were expunged from the middle class and small companies and corporations for the benefit of the fast buck operators--now foreign predatory interests. Their power has even checkmated our politics and broken our competence and confidence in ruling ourselves. All that can be seen ahead of this broken Republic is darkness at noon.

It all makes sense now. Those who think "Atlas Shrugged" is a magnum opus of philosophy are born that way. They can't help it.

How about these macho guys spend one day, a week better, shadowing a doc in an ER...ok, try one near Wall St.,....see what you are worth then with less education and not half the stamina and 24/7 hours! Let's just throw in your kid as a patient, or your mother...ok, a dear friend. I sure hope when we all get to the pearly gates, there are two lines, b/c the generations of these times are going to sure cause a backlog!
