Green Jobs First Topic For Biden's New Task Force (VIDEO)

Huffington Post   First Posted: 03/02/09 05:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 02:00 PM ET

President Obama just made a big step toward the green goals he set on the campaign trail, announcing a task force that would address an economic stimulus for the middle class that focuses on green jobs:

The president appointed Vice President Joe Biden to lead the task force, which will hold monthly meetings, the first in Philadelphia on Feb. 27.

Obama said his economic stimulus plan now before Congress would double renewable energy to about 10 percent of the nation's total production, and would create 3 million jobs, many of those in green industries.

Watch some of the press conference announcing the task force:

The AP reports that the first goal for Biden's new task force will be to discuss green jobs:

Biden pledged that the task force will conduct its business in the open, and announced a Web site, http://www.astrongmiddleclass.gov, for the public to get information. He also announced that the panel's first meeting will be Feb. 27 in Philadelphia and will focus on environmental or "green jobs."

Let's see we have to TALK, why not WALK. Don't we need to walk before we talk?

FDR built the DAMS. It might hurt your head, but FDR created Nationalized Energy from the DAMS. Nationized to the STATES who the rivers ran through. Not disturbing the right of ownership.

I hear 3000 miles of transmission lines so the EAST COAST can steal western open space for free.

Let's talk about Green jobs: Thinking GREEN, Watching the Wind BLOW. Watching the sun SHINE. Seeing large white white wind farms and solar farms covering the GREEN EARTH.

SUCKING SOUND going sourth for a few survey, installation, and lineman jobs.

What are the GREEN JOB, the bean under the shell?

America as innovator again. Fantastic. But don't forget affordable higher education if we are going to get the talent necessary to do this.

Release the Hydrogen Economy now!
02:38 PM on 02/01/2009
Mr. Obama, if you want to do something for the MIDDLE CLASS, then release the HYDROGEN ECOMONY and provide them with this FREE INDEPENDENT SOURCE OF ELECTRICITY.

Send Biden over to Verizon in NJ and have him look at those 6 hydrogen fuel cell power plants that supply the total electrical power for that building.

Then send Biden on a electrolysis short course and show him how to split the hydrogen atoms off the water molecule, compress the gas and run the hydrogen gas up against one side of a fuel cell membrane with ambient oxygen on the other side. When the water molecule snaps back in place, it releases electrical energy that can be drawn off as a current to power anything and everything!

Then when the people have their own independent electrical power, they will soon figure out what to do with it and improve their environmental and personal living standards.

Hydrogen is a LOSS because it is NOT an energy source. It is merely an energy storage device like a battery, and it doesn't even work as well as a battery.

Buy American. We have to do our job too. Everything I buy in the store says"made in China." We have to turn that around to say "made in America."

Rules are not necessarily sacred, principles are.

So first you export the financial troubles in a way the whole world suffers and then you close the gates and only buy American.

Couldn't you have closed the borders BEFORE 'The American Nightmare' pushed the entire world to the dge of the cliff?

Americans need the jobs to have the money to buy the products since we are the largest consumers of frivolous items called junk.
Yes, we should have seen that this would have happened to US and the world, but Americans wanted it cheap and at any cost.

I'm a strong Obama supporter, but at the rate this administration is sprouting web domains I expect to see iamtotallyconfused.gov showing up any day now. I wonder how many of their folks are using the "forgotten password recovery" button at least weekly.

This might seem a little self serving, since I have a vested interest in the following, but one of the things that baffles me about the energy dialogue in this country is that we already have an out-of-the-box renewable green technology that would do more to create jobs and reduce energy consumption and production of carbon dioxide than all the other conservation and efficiency programs combined. Geothermal heating and cooling systems are here now, and reduce consumption of natural gas and electricity by as much as 70 percent. In fact, they eliminate the need for gas entirely from homes and businesses for heating purposes. Furthermore, because they do not require energy-hogging air-conditioning fans and chillers to cool buildings, they reduce electrical consumption by very large amounts as well. While unlikely, simply requiring new construction to use this technology would eliminate the need for any new power plants or gas development for decades. Think about it: If natural gas is not needed for heating, there would be a massive and permanent reduction in CO2 emissions that can only benefit the environment, and incidentally, eliminate accidental deaths from carbon monoxide poisoning too. Similarly, the reduction in electrical demand would initially lower the amount of coal burned to generate power or at least prevent the need for new stations for some time, and thereby also would reduce CO2 emissions.

A middle class task force? Good!

It's first meeting focuses on jobs? Great!

Not just jobs, but green jobs? Fantastic! Now this is more like it!

I'm sorry to see that Joe Biden has so little personal appeal that no one is even
commenting here on this very important issue of promoting the American middle class.
09:50 PM on 01/30/2009
Well he needs to do something worth commenting on. Setting up a meeting and a web site is a start, but there are no tangible discussion points that I see.

What pisses me off is seeing tonight the U.S. has been selling standard bulk raw recycles like we put in our bins to Asia for years and by the shiploads.
09:48 PM on 01/30/2009
they need to put something in those ships. We get their product, they get our recyclables.

They will refine and then we will buy them back.

We are a more interconnected world.

The NeoCons realized this, that is why they tried war to push American Hegemony. Their plan failed (it was destined to fail from the start). A service nation is not going to cut it as Ronnie would have liked it to. Sorry, we will have to compete. Our standards( wages) will have to go down, others (ie China's) will have to come up.

The only other way is by war, did I mention the NeoCons tried that?
