FRANKFORT, Ky. — Gov. Steve Beshear (beh-SHEER) is raising his state's death toll to 24 in a storm that caked several states in ice last week.

That means at least 55 people have died in the storm nationwide.

Beshear says in a letter to President Barack Obama released Monday that 10 of the deaths were from carbon monoxide poisoning and at least nine others from hypothermia.

The governor's office isn't giving details on the individual deaths.

Being from northern Middle Tennessee, and living there for over two decades, I have certainly experienced my share of ice storms, especially during my teenage years. I remember vividly the power cuts caused by a ice storm. During one particular storm, the power was out for about two weeks. We were lucky enough to have a wood burning stove to keep the entire house warm.

I live in Elizabethtown. Thank God my power was restored yesterday, though I still have several family members without. Bottom line is this.. The local governments and state have done everything they possibly can to help and fix this problem as quickly as possible. What we STILL need in Kentucky is the following:
If you CAN come here and volunteer.. we need help removing trees and checking on people.
If you CANNOT come here.. we need FOOD, we need MONEY, and we need Chain Saws.

We have a tremendous amount of downed trees and limbs everywhere you go. Even if your in another state help in whatever way you can.
