I Like ItI Don’t Like It

President Muammar el-Qaddafi of Libya was named chairman of the African Union on Monday, wresting control of a body he helped found and has long wanted to remake in his pan-African image.

His installation as the new head of the 53-member body resembled more of a coronation than a democratic transfer of power. Colonel Qaddafi was dressed in flowing gold robes and surrounded by traditional African leaders who hailed him as the "king of kings."

Can we start by getting the Tutsi and the Hutu to stop killing each other, before trying to get the Nigerians to share their oil with the rest of the continent?

They will be no Nigerians sharing their oil as they are just one of 20 plus oil producer in Africa! Africa has mineral reserve in almost all of its countries and what is prone here is a federal system and not an African continent under Qaddafi....

When we are abroad we all are Americans and do not display our disagreement to the world, the same will apply to the Hutus and Tutsis, they will get along in a bigger African union because their share the same language and culture...

This news, on top of all of the anti-supply side economic sentiments so popular today, surely has old Ronnie Raygun's corpse spinning like a top in a box....

Mu*sl*ims have been trying to take over Africa for centuries anyway. I guess this is another route to accomplish that. With their history, I assume the whiter Africans will treat the darker skinned ones as peasants. No deal.

Every country in Africa is not like Apartheid South Africa or Sudan. Many Muslims, lighter skinned blacks and other people from different ethnic groups have lived in Africa peacefully for centuries. The problem is tribalism. I think its a good idea kind of like the EU and the US but they need to see how tribalism will play a role in this.

I hadn't thought of that angle. It might be a good idea - Khaddafi's brain child.

On one hand, his development has been impressive. He renounced nuclear weapons and posted an excellent NYTimes op-ed calling for a single democratic state to replace Israel and the proposed Palestinian state. His reasoning was sophisticated and far ahead of the propagandistic "two-state" solution, which will never happen.

On the other hand, the idea of a single African super-state is as likely as a similar development in Europe. A good goal to work towards, like a single government for the earth, but not likely in our lifetime.

In any case, despite his love of outre couture, he's a very serious thinker and his nation deserves to be taken seriously.

USof Africa can only work when religious and cultural differences are not used to govern...e.g. (non) or sharia law, etc

This isn't new, he's been arguing for this since the 60s. Others here who have suggested that it will never fly with enough of the African states are almost certainly right, however. Having said that, a single currency (a kind of African euro) might be a pretty good idea. It would give African nations some international clout.

As for Qaddafi, he has his good points. More than a little crazy, but still with some good ideas, and he HAS had the guts to stand up to the western powers over the decades. Does anyone know if he still has the personal bodyguard of heavily-armed statuesque blonde women? They used to be East German, but with East Germany being no more, I guess they could be from somewhere else!

LOL, I didn't know he used female bodyguards exclusively until you said that. Very interesting. And I have no idea about the East German bodyguards, but all that I can find in recent years appear to be homegrown Libyan women by the looks of them. And I guess it's no surprise you can find a documentary film on IMDB that was done about them as well, lol.

President Adolf el-Qaddafi of Africa ...

At least upon his success of creating the United States of Africa, Palin will be justified in thinking Africa was a Country rather than a Continent ...

So what you want about him, but he apparently has some kind of charisma. And his idea for the single state Africa is actually a very good idea. Obviously, this is an idea that will go over like a lead balloon in the western capitalized world.

Ultimately, it would effectively turn Africa into a world superpower and big player on the world stage. It would finally end all traces of imperialism by western countries. It would also bring to an abrupt halt, the exploitation of Africa and it's people by the western world. That would great upset the establish world order. Probably would start World War 3, to be honest. I mean, you don't just take away economic livelihood from the western world for no reason. We have fought major conflicts for far less, such as Iraq which was fought simply to settle a personal vendetta one person had with one other person.

And when you get right down to it, Asia should do the same thing. Obviously they would want to leave out China, so that they could compete against China and not have to be subject to their totalitarian regime. But if Asia was to do that, that would likely be more harmful than Africa by far. Because that would factor into technology sectors and research. And consolidating literally 99.9% of all opium production into one entity.

Maybe we'll get the New World Order after all, just not the way that the western capitalists wanted, muahahaha.

Africa, the motherland, with its beautiful beaches, mountains, diamonds, oil, minerals, wild animals and so much more, has been pillaged and exploited enough!!! A North African is not the person to make that continent one.

So the North Africans are not African enough in your opinion? Ok, fine. I'll say we banish New York from the United States. They aren't American enough. And let's kick out Texas too. They are different and after they put the last dictator on us, they have no business having anything to do with our country anymore. They got to go.
