I Like ItI Don’t Like It

This is funny. Now that Michael Steele has been installed as RNC chair, Democrats have unearthed a video, originally posted on the YouTube page of his 2006 Senate race opponent, Ben Cardin, that Dems say shows homeless men from Philadelphia that Steele reportedly bussed in to hand out arguably misleading flyers for his campaign.

The episode isn't exactly an attractive one for a party chair to have been involved in, and Dems are hoping to revive memories of what was a pretty eyebrow-raising tale:

So Michael Steele is reaching out to Hip Hop and "one armed midgets"? I happen to have the perfect song for him, to bring rap fans to the G.O.P. tent. The name of the song (coincidentally), is "The G.O.P."........ but I don't think it's exactly what Mr. Steele had in mind. If it does bring young African-Americans and Hispanics to their tent, it's probably just to tear it down!

Watch the video. Check out the t-shirts for "Erlich-Steele Democrats" that they are wearing.

No, it's the same as under the repub licans. At least they aren't being exploited by someone trying to be a democrat.

What is wrong with hiring homeless people to hand out pamphlets? I don't have a problem with that at all.

The problem is that the pamphlets themselves were misleading. That's the story.

He hired homeless blacks in Philadelphia and bused them to Baltimore neighborhoods to make it look like the GOP had more support from black people than they actually had. (On top of that, the literature was misleading too.)

He used black people who were destitute to mislead other black people into voting Republican. He used black people--and he is black himself. He is the worst kind of hypocrite and sellout. Was the GOP going to make the lives of these homeless blacks any better?

Steele gave homeless people something to do in exchange for "money, donuts and coffee." How horrible! Those poor homeless people, having to receive "money, donuts and coffee" and do something for it. I'm sure they're democrats now, if they weren't already, so they could just get their "money, donuts and coffee" for doing nothing.

And what you so carefully omitted was the main point of the article, that Steele USED homeless people to do dirty work for him. It shows a lack of integrity and character. That is the real message of the article. We get it......we understand why you don't.

Who authorized its removal??? Very strange.......

The fact that Michael Steele had to go to Pennsylvania to get homeless men to work his campaign (by wearing shirts to allege Democrats supported him and Ehrlich) shows how desperate he was to win in 2000. The Republicans have pulled a number of antics in other races as well (e.g., Florida and Texas in 2000). In the 2008 Presidential race in parts of Southern Virginia, flyers were sent to homes stating that due to the large anticipated voter turnout, Republicans would vote on November 4th and Democrats would vote on November 5th -- and they really thought folks would fall for this!
If Steele and other Republican candidates are so sure of themselves and their leadership abilities then why do they result to antics of deceit and trickery to get votes! A true leader stands on their word and lets his/her actions speak for them.
As a resident of Maryland, those tactics during the 2000 gubernatorial election showed the caliber that Steele and Ehrlich were made of -- and the state is still trying to recoup from the mess they made while in office. Luckily the state did not make the mistake again by voting Steele as a State Senator in 2004.
The only good thing about Steele leading the Republican National Committee is that he will not be running for office again any time soon!

Why is anyone surprised about this ploy, hiring homeless to pass out misleading information. Isn't that exactly what the Republican party is all about? And they probably considered paying the homeless a pittance as their charity for the day. Kind of reminds me of Vegas, where they did the same thing.
