AP: Obama "Seen By Some As Arrogant"

I've heard it said that good journalism afflicts the comfortable and comforts the afflicted, but for my money, I love an article that includes insight into people. Specifically, "some people." You know, those indiscriminate, unnamed "some people" that seem to stand in for the editorial opinion of a reporter or anchor. Take this article by Charles Babington of the AP. In it, "some people" are up to all sorts of nonsense, despite the fact that the facts and the tenor of the piece would have survived intact without "some people" providing their input:

"The new president, seen by some as arrogant, was anything but on Tuesday."

[...]

"In other words, Obama may be more ordinary than some admirers would like to admit."

[...]

"But Obama's rocket ride to the White House, his extraordinary speaking skills, and his smooth, I-don't-sweat style had some people calling him 'the one,' a once-in-a-generation political leader who could rise above his predecessors' foibles."

So, "some people" think Obama is "arrogant." Of course, "some people" also call Obama "the one." Which is weird, because "some people" wish that Obama would just cop to being ordinary? Are "some people" just projecting? Do "some people" need to take some time to work out their issues in therapy, maybe, and learn to have realistic expectations? Who knows? I just think that "some people" are sending all kinds of mixed messages.
