Jessica Alba On Childbirth, Girdles And Her Exotic Look

Jessica Alba has given an interview to the March ELLE in which she talks about childbirth, her figure and her exotic looks.

Alba gave birth to daughter Honor Marie Warren last June. In the below photo from the magazine, she is posing with designer Joseph Altazurra.

-On giving birth: "Contractions aren't that bad. If you've ever had bad cramps? That's what they're like. But that moment when they put the baby on your chest - that's deep. It's a deep experience."

-On snapping back into shape so quickly after giving birth: "I did it for the Campari job. [The workouts] were horrible. I cried. And I haven't worked out since."

-Her secret to looking slim after giving birth: "I wore a girdle. Eight weeks after my girlfriend had her baby, you could see her six-pack. She told me to put an elastic band around my waist - any kind of band or girdle works. She was like, "I slept in it." I didn't recover as fast as she did. I don't have a six-pack - that's just not my body at all."

-On having an exotic look: "Anyone who's part of pop culture is going to be sensationalized and spun into something, some one-liner. Also, there aren't many other stars, besides Halle Berry and Jennifer Lopez, who most people in the world can related to. We look like people of the world - I can kind of mix in with girls in Asia, South America, Europe."

Campari ads here, for which she was nonetheless airbrushed thinner.

Lol, I think she's refering to Italians, Spainards and Eastern Europeans with a darker look. She has a good point. The majority of Hollywood does not represent what people around the world actually look like.

So are all the comments about Alba being a "self-loathing" Latina (for, quite probably, being raised as an Anglo-American due to the influence of her Anglo mother), similarly PO'd at Christina Aguilera? Cameron Diaz? Benjamin Bratt?

What about all the earlier Hollywood actors and actresses who changed their surnames?
Rita Hayworth comes to mind. I never thought of her being Hispanic or Latina, just an actress.

And then there's Lynda Carter (yes, WondeWoman), Frankie Muniz, Madeleine Stowe, Raquel Welch, Joanna Kerns ( the mother on Growing Pains), Anthony Quinn, and there are many more.

Are they all "self-loathing"? Concealing their heritage? Get over it.

I did that girdle thing after my first child. It hurt so bad that I had to take it off. As for labor pains feeling like cramps, she must've had her baby quick.

Her exotic looks come from her ethnicity, not who she can fit in with. She's Hispanic & Caucasion for the most part. Cash is Black & Caucasian. Their baby is multicultural.

Do you know what a big deal it is for one of these starlets to admit that it took her a while to get back into shape after giving birth? She has admitted that she wore a girdle to keep everything in afterwards - like regular people do! We should be applauding her for her honesty rather than knocking her. She could have gone the way of most female celebs who pretend that all they did was a few situps and bang, back in a bikini in a week (omitting to mention the surgery that 'fixed everything just like new'). She is admitting that it was really hard work to get back in shape and in so doing she has just validated the experiences of regular women. Some people have an easy time of giving birth and others suffer horrendously. I applaud her honesty. She could just as easily have lied but she didn't. Good for her!

I don't give a sh*t if they have to grease her up head to toe and wedge her into a girdle with a tire iron, I still adore her. And not for just her looks. I adore her for for verbally bitch-slapping Bill O'Rielly not once, but twice in a week.
