HBO is tapping Fox sportscaster Joe Buck to host a new sports based talk show for the pay cabler. The move by HBO comes just a day after the network lost its longtime face of sports coverage Bob Costas to MLB Network.
Development of the new show is still very early in the process and will debut in May. While it will be sports based, Buck says the show will also feature comedy sketches and elements.

Remember, I think it was a couple years ago, Joe Buck and Troy Aikman were working a game. Comments were made by someone how some players prefer the 3/4 inch cleats, and some prefer the 5/8 inch cleats. Well, Buck turns to Aikman and says "so, Troy, tell me, you were in the NFL, what's longer, the 5/8 cleat or the 3/4 cleats?". Aikman handled it very gracefully, "well, I think the 3/4 cleats are probably a little bit longer there, Joe." True story.

This is disappointing. It seems to me that if HBO desperately needs to replace Costas for some reason (assuming a deal cannot be worked out by which he works for MLBN AND HBO, much like the deal by which he works for HBO and NBC now) then the perfect replacement is already working for HBO: Bryant Gumbel. Gumbel is a legitimate sports journalist and an experienced interviewer, where Joe Buck is a play by play man.
Weak. Does Joe come cheap or something? He is a terrible announcer and now he is going to be some sort of sports expert? HBO sucks at sports and they will continue.
Joe Buck sucks, Jack Buck was great ... no question.
What a terrible move by HBO, Joe Buck is one of the worst sportscasters on television, and whoever thought that making an audience listen to him try to speak like a regular human being for an hour would be entertaining has no place near a cable network.

Listening to Joe Buck and Tim McCarver trying to call a game is some of the worst sports broadcasting in the history of television. Arrogance and dullness are two adjectives that are rarely put together to describe something, but those are exactly the words I would use to describe Joe Buck( I have some other words to describe McCarver but I'm sure the post wouldn't make it past the censors).
This show will die a horrible death, of course I never watched that show with Costas either so who cares....bring back Deadwood.
Actually, I am sorry to see Jack's kid go away. I mean that because I do not, and will not, get HBO.
