Obamas Head To Kennedy Center For 'Date Night' (PHOTOS)

WASHINGTON - Life in the White House isn't keeping Barack and Michelle Obama from holding onto date night.

The president and first lady are attending an Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater performance on Friday night at The Kennedy Center.

The show is sold out, but that's not a problem. The White House says the Obamas plan to sit in the president's box.

The first couple will attend the performance with friends.

In an interview before his inauguration, the president said he and his wife liked having Friday date nights.

Pool report via Time:

POTUS, FLOTUS and daughters stayed until the end of a two and a quarter
hour performance by the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater at the Kennedy
Center, according to a White House official, although the pool left the
building before the end.

Motorcade departed the Kennedy Center 10.00pm, arrived South Lawn 10.04pm
after an uneventful ride through deserted DC streets...

POTUS was wearing a dark suit, white shirt and red tie; FLOTUS wore a black
jacket decorated with a large silver broach. Audience members hung over the
balcony above the presidential box trying to reach down to shake hands.
FLOTUS and daughters smiled broadly as they waved at the crowd. One woman
in an adjacent box appeared to be shrieking with delight at her close
encounter with the First Family.

My wife and I attended the event, and it was great to watch along with the President and First Family!

The best parts were the rousing cheers from the audience when the President and Family entered the theater (beginning­/intermiss­ion), and more so at the end during the encore . . . . amid cheers, standing ovation, clapping for the performers. . . . after the final bow, the dancers clapped and blew kisses back to Malia & Sasha.

How COOL! I love Alvin Ailey - I wonder what they performed? I hope the Obama's saw "Revelations" (my favorite!!!) and met Judith Jamison. What a wonderful treat!

My mom and her friend were given tix to this at the last minute when another friend could not go. There were folks sitting next to her who had come from Richmond to see Alvin Ailey, though they had wanted to come for the inauguration. What a nice surprise for them! They were so excited they had trouble concentrating on the show. The Secret Service had special equipment for screening folks, and my mom's artificial knee(s) set it off but they waved her through.

I attend concerts at the Kennedy Center a few times a year, and it is always sad to see the President's box sitting there empty. I hope they make it to see Wynton Marsalis, I'll be there!

This is an "Obama Alert." A phrase that I coined to alert all his supporters when an injustice has been perpetrated. The Buffalo Zoo has just named their baby giraffe ...Malia, after the President's young ten year old daughter. The council people requested that they retracted this name for the lack of respect to the daughter of the president.­..and they refused. This child is only TEN years of age. They claim that this zoo has a tradition of naming their pets after "celebriti­es." Since when is the president's daughter a "celebrity" in the legitimate definition of the word? What show did Malia performed on? What record did she made? When did she performed with the "dancing with stars" or American Idol? She is NOT a celebrity. She is the young and very impressionable daughter of the President of the USA. She is entitled to the same exact respect that was extended to former president children and that was she and her sister deserves to be "off limits." I written to this zoo. I called this zoo and complained. I hope others will join me in this support and let them get an ear load of emails and phones calls in reference to this poor taste in judgment. This child just went to a new school which is difficult enough without the added pressure of being ridiculed as a giraffe.

Would you want YOUR ten year old that happened to be extremely tall for her age...name­d after a giraffe? Nevermind she just started a new school and children are known to be cruel and do not need a hand in coming up ways to be mean spirited.
