The real news is that most antipepressants and anxiolytics mess up the chemicals we associated with bonding, love, and attraction.

So don't expect a loving relationship from someone on mental health medications.

You know, I am really surprised by the shallowness of many of the comments here. Imagine if Sir Issac Newton were among us as he tries to explain his discovery of gravity. Many of the comment would be nearly the same.

"An apple falls from a tree. Duh!"

"Wow, great observation Sherlock"

"I hope you didn't burn out a lobe figuring out that object fall when you drop them"

Science is about understanding that which we take for granted so that we may appreciate it more. And sometimes we discover things along the way that we didn't know.

Of all the things that don't need researching, kissing is certainly at the top of the list.

I take it, then, that you don't think science by way of biology is important.
Fine, go read your bible.

I think this is very interesting research. I've frequently wondered about kissing...I mean, honestly, it's a very weird thing to do, and yet instinct seems to tell us to do it. Why is that???
I'd like to see more research of this type, Where do i sign up? ha ha
On a more serious note, I also think the research on this would be better spent researching things like, I don't know, cures for epilepsy, depression, cancer, HIV, etc.

speaking from the male's point of view, perhaps intimate kissing - with its repeated tongue insertions - perhaps its real biological purpose is primarily to test whether or not penetration of the male genitalis will be tolerated / accepted / welcomed by the other party involved.

i'm only guessing.

That is the sole purose of kissing as far as the male is concerned. No need for it otherwise. You are right.

Why does it have to be either/or?

My god, what a major scientific breakthrough! What a brilliant discovery! Science triumphant! (I hope my sarcasm is showing.)

Lovey-dovey, smoochy-koochy is the reason kissing feels so pleasurable!

>>Romantic love has also been shown to have a close link to neurological activity, with scans showing that it has similar effect to cocaine on our brains.

This reminded me of the song "Never Been Any Reason" by Head East back in the mid 1970's:

Woman with the sweet love is better than a white line

"Bring a good feelin' ain't had in such a long time." Thanks for reminding me. One of my favorite seventies songs, and a great american band from Missouri.

Be assured that this "research" was probably carried out under a very large government grant....

re: "...Hill, professor of psychology at Lafayette College, Pennsylvania began the research to find out why the mundane physical activity of rubbing lips can elicit such a gratifying emotional response."

maybe i'm the odd man out on this but i don't think "rubbing lips" is sufficient to elicit the sort of pleasure the headline alludes to - i think its got more to do with the exchange of bodily fluids brought about by the intimate tongue probing of both participants - otherwise we might all be falling in love with our mothers and grandmothers.

I have awakened her
like flint
the spark ignited to what degree
And oh ...how her rising pleasures spread warmth to me
And how her face shines like a perfect sonnet
Worth more to me than all the volumes of my poetry
For without even flesh I have awakened her !!

never rush a kiss, it's magic your making

though id un-pop a cork for my friends here at huffingtonpost !!

sip slowly !!

I have had the intense pleasure of making out with a world-class kisser. When Jill kissed you, you STAYED kissed!

We need research to tell us?

Well, we need research to tell us which ones and by how much.

And expensive, government-funded research at that, no doubt....
