New state gift disclosures show it cost Liberty Legal Institute and the two law firms working with it $185,000 to represent six Alaska legislators in an unsuccessful lawsuit to halt their colleagues' "troopergate" investigation into whether Gov. Sarah Palin acted improperly in firing the state's public safety director.

The legislators listed a $25,000 gift of services from the Texas-based Liberty Legal Institute. Liberty is the legal arm of the Free Market Foundation, which is associated with evangelical leader James Dobson's Focus on the Family, and lists its guiding principles as limited government and promotion of Judeo-Christian values.

Absolutely-Take their tax exemptions away & expose the "EVILGELICALS", as we call them, for the terrible things they do in the name of the Lord

Since they seem more concerned with what you do in the privacy of your bedroom maybe we should call them "EVANGENITALS'.

Whoops! I meant "values" not "vales." Sheesh! I hate when that happens!

It never ceases to amaze me how the vast majority of evangelicals can talk such a big talk about Christian vales and at the same time let basic ethics completely escape their grasp. I don't believe philosophically that Christ and Machiavelli are in the same catagory. . .and yet these folks seem inclined to lump the Bible and The Prince together!

No surprise here. The questions I have are, who payed for Palin and her husbands lawyers? Did they use the states lawyers? When will we see the transcripits from the Palins and others testimony? When will we see those e-mails? When will those who chose to ignore supenas or refused to testify be called to account for thier actions?

Palin. The gift that keeps on giving.

Palin endorsed our Governor in Texas and ---now this story. How embarassing. We aren't all wingnuts or evangelicals in Texas nor are we all Republicans --but , instead, are people hoping to turn TX blue by 2010!!!

Keep the faith, sally. I'm originally and a long-term resident of North Carolina. If we went blue, there's hope for Texas.

Time for these so called "churches" to start paying taxes. Let's build THAT into the stimulus. Anyone know how much revenue that would generate?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:42 AM on 02/10/2009

Good idea. Here, churches cannot actively engage in political shinanigans or they lose their status as "holy" and therefore tax exempt. These evangelical or any other fundamentalist groups have forgotten that the reason they were not subject to taxes was because they were supposed to help the needy not arm up against them.

Hm, let's see. 1/1000th as much as we'd get if we started making businesses pay taxes?

By the way, shouldn't "churches" be required to pay "taxes"? As opposed to taxes?

Has somebody checked in on Alaska lately. Things don't look right, the Governor's been running around The Lower 48 for months and the RNC and some Texans claim they're subletting the property. I dunno, but I've got a bad feeling about this, maybe everybody's trussed up on the living room floor, with duct tape over their mouths. Anybody know Canada's phone number? Maybe they can send somebody over to take a look see.

Would someone, anyone, PLEASE, revoke their tax exempt status????!!!!!! Dobson and his followers are blatantly breaking the law. What is it going to take before someone from our government does something about this?
