O'Hare Expansion At Top Of Stimulus Projects List

Mayor Richard M. Daley hasn't been too specific about what's on the city's economic-stimulus wish list. But during a visit to Washington on Tuesday, he finally mentioned what may be among the largest items: Money for the on-going modernization of O'Hare International Airport.

Sources who know say O'Hare now has a list of "nearly $1 billion" in "shovel ready" construction projects that are ready to go as part of the expansion, projects that just need $$$$ to get started. Included are relocation of of cargo terminals (price: $300 million), construction of a new runway at the center of the field, and relocation of a railroad needed for another runway at the south end.
