Tom Cruise, Son Connor And Kidman's Husband Keith Do Daytona 500 (PHOTOS)

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Country music star Keith Urban performed a surprise two-song set for reporters to kick off his day at the Daytona 500, where he was the featured artist for Sunday's pre-race concert.

"First time playing a press room," he quipped before launching into "Sister Golden Hair" by America.

It was the first press room concert performed by any of the musical acts that Daytona International Speedway officials have brought before the media. Urban said he wasn't trying to one-up previous music guests Big & Rich, Bon Jovi or Brooks & Dunn, but played because "I just wanted to get in my comfort zone."

Urban took brief questions and laughed awkwardly when asked what his favorite racing movie is.

"Uhhhhh ... `Cars'?" he stammered, choosing the animated movie over the more obvious "Days of Thunder" that featured his wife, Nicole Kidman, with her ex-husband, Tom Cruise.

Later, Urban and Cruise both attended the pre-race driver meeting. The two were seated on opposite ends, but Cruise heartily applauded Urban when the singer was introduced.

Urban also joked to reporters that he's never driven more than 65 mph in his personal car, before coming clean.

"Maybe 130," he said was his fastest. "It was pretty insane. It was only for a glimpse."

Urban is scheduled to perform three songs from his new album "Sweet Thing," which is set for release next month. He performed the title track for reporters to end the 10-minute session.

Urban also said he and Kidman were glad to offer their support to victims of the wildfires in their native Australia. The couple recently donated more than $300,000 to a relief fund.

I can not comprehend how so many in the press mock Cruise and many in the public dislike him. Except for his comment about Brooke Shield's antidepressent use, which he apologized for, I do not know of anything he has done wrong to deserve the ridicule. For those who may say it is his Scientology beliefs, I say all religions could be ridiculed by others.

Your post made me re-look. I first thought they were so close that Connor could have picked up Tom's mannerisms, smiles, etc., along the way. But it IS uncanny that they seem to have identical teeth patterns.

Tom Cruise looks amazing of late! Better than he has in years. Also, crazy train or not, he gets props from me for adopting a black kid and making sure the child had good black male role models around him growing up (Will Smith, Jamie Foxx). Plus, the affection between father and son there is genuine. When I was 14, I wasn't nearly as keen on having my parents hug and love all over me.

I think these are wonderful pictures of Tom Cruise and his son. The boy is 14, obviously well adjusted. At 14 it says alot about the parenting he has had that he will let his dad put his arm around him and kiss him in public. Those poses don't look staged. Connor is obviously glad to be with his dad. I don't know too many 14 year olds who want to hang out with their dad or even let him get that close to him. He seems like he is well rounded. I have seen pictures where he is was playing soccer and his family is around him. So as much as I think Tom went on the crazy train for a little while there, he is doing something right with his son.

Hopefully he won't end up a train wreck like the Willis girls or say Peaches Geldorf or Lindsey Lohan, etc., etc., etc.

Not a big Cruise fan, but he has always had Connor and adopted daughter with him when he was riding high and when he wasn't.

I appreciated him not plastering Connor or daughter Emily (?) on TV/print when he got them as infants, and Tom's very aware of Connor's cultural background. He even appeared w/ Connor on BET Teen show. At least he includes Connor's heritage so he'll be balanced as much as possible. uNLIKE MANY PARENTS ADOPTING ETHNIC KIDS AND NOT EXPOSING THEM INTO THEIR OWN ETHNIC BACKGROUNDS.

Say what you want about, Tom but give credit when its due. I've also seen Nicole w/ the kids as well in rushed photos. Been said svrl times, they don't like the limelight, so cool by me!
