ft.com:

If North Korea were hoping to open bilateral diplomacy with the US through its latest round of brinkmanship, Hillary Clinton dashed those hopes on Friday.

Many analysts have interpreted North Korea's talk of impending war and its threat to defy the UN with some kind of ballistics test as a bid to push Pyongyang further up the foreign policy agenda of Barack Obama, the US president.

The best way to negotiate with North Korea is to stick strictly with the ground rules. If NK issues increased demands, we say "sorry, that's not what we agreed upon." If NK rattles the sabre, we rattle ours right back at them.

The key here is balance: We must be consistantly tough and firm with this ultimate of rogue states without playing the preemption card.

She calls the Koreans names then tells China don't worry about human rights. Global warming is far more important. Swear that is what she said.

Time for Ms. Clinton to return to the US. When diplomacy is reduced to name calling, it's time to go home!

First the Bush Administration uses the term: the "Axis of Evil" and now, Ms. Clinton calls North Korea the "Hermit Kingdom".

This is no way to encourage "talks". Same on you, Ms. Clinton!

Hillary, do you really think anyone is going to believe that North Korea is a threat to the US? How many millions did you and Bill get from Allen Stanford? North Korea is a distraction from your own crimes.
01:36 PM on 02/20/2009
Millions? Do you know anything about campaign finance laws? That guy gave a little to everyone. Don't make up stories and stay on topic.

Crazy how President Obama's policies are nearly identical to GW's and now Hill is Condi II. Will this nightmare ever end?

With certain countries it will be the same, with others, different.

How exactly do you expect them to deal with N. Korea? Roll over and play dead?

Voters remorse? Admit it - you got suckered! But McCain would have been worse.

Mrs. Clinton,
Please sent a message to China and tell them North Korea is your problem. That is part of being a Super Power. There is no need for the USA to waste any time or resources dealing with them.

China can and will shut him up.

DAWD5BOYS, please send a message to your teachers you have once again failed! and getting a job should be your foremost concern before speaking to foreign policy issues.

N korea exports its nuclear technology to Syria and Iran ( Libya, before they came to us ) and if there is a war in that peninsular - it would require the US to come to S Korea's aid. You know that S Korea that the Chinese don't like very much because it has ties to the US? Let alone we have bases there. Objective is not to walk away from our allies because someone else is bullying them or give up our check and balance military presence.

No run along kid. Foreign policy is beyond your comprehension. Luckily , not single sole who makes such a decision i.e. obama is ever going to adhere to your amateur hour opinions.

North Korea is a threat to no one.
02:34 PM on 02/20/2009
South Korea may think otherwise.

Hillary, is that what you call diplomacy. You sound like Condi. Go buy some shoes and get a new pant suit for crying out loud.
10:09 AM on 02/20/2009
You would react to sound diplomacy similarly, if it slapped you in the ass like your doctor did when you were born.

The adults are back in charge now.
09:13 AM on 02/20/2009
Do you mean to say that adults read "My Pet Goat" too?
10:28 AM on 02/20/2009
No they're not. The Democrats are in charge.

I look forward to the Democrats spanking the Republicans again in 2012, 2016, 2020, 2024...

Hillary, ask Bill for advice. When he sold North Korea the reactors North Korea made many promises. Bill told us we could trust them.
10:27 AM on 02/20/2009
Bill did not have se.x with that woman either.
08:06 AM on 02/20/2009
North Korea has a lot to gain by starting a war, TOTAL ANNIHILATION, PAIN, MISERY, SUFFERING, AN ATOMIC END TO THEIR DICTATORSHIP. Yep, they have a lot to gain by starting a war.
02:41 PM on 02/20/2009
WITH WHOM?? And you don't really believe that Obama will do anything about it, do you?
07:32 AM on 02/20/2009
There you go Madame, always so proud of you .
American naysayer politicians , should learn a thing or two about unity from Hillary . Being like Newt will not get them any votes when their time comes !

I, too, am very proud of HRC. She has met every expectation of mine as an American leader. I hope she is not manipulated by Asian interests and holds true to what is good for America.
09:09 AM on 02/20/2009
Your expectations must not be set too high. And, in regards to NK, "what is good for America"?
03:13 AM on 02/20/2009
Look, the faux war on terror is fading. People are waking up. We need new enemies NOW! Go to NK and pick a fight.

Yes - Yes - Yes! I have stock in the MIC and need to boost my savings.

.

North Korea's endless saber-rattling rhetoric rhetoric really has become boring and has about as much effect as a repeatedly skipping record heard playing on an old gramophone. Their posturing only highlights their own lack of national self perception.

Way to go, Madame Secretary. I am so proud of the work you are doing representing our country. It's nice to have a profressional in this role once again.

Hillary has been doing well...I thought she was a good sport to go on a teen show on Indonesia and answer what he favorite music is, The Beatles and other baby boomer era classics, to which the young audience applauded...she proclaimed that they made her not feel old...
