Obama Victory Party Costs Still Owed To Chicago

Chicago Sun Times :

Chicago has yet to recoup the $1.74 million cost of President Obama's victory celebration in Grant Park -- despite a burgeoning $50.5 million budget shortfall that threatens more layoffs and union concessions.

"The Democratic National Committee has not yet paid us,'' Peter Scales, a spokesman for the city's Office of Budget and Management, said Thursday after questions from the Chicago Sun-Times. "We're reaching out to them this week."

Or simply a late billing and accounting problem. Considering the fact that 10s of millions of dollars were left over in the Obama Election Funds, covering the remaining bill is no big deal. Someone must have dropped the ball in accounting. Trying to pin this on President Obama is rather ridiculous.

Because you would normally expect some scandal like Abramoff or the Iraq war coming out of the party in power... a lost American city at least, or a successful terrorist attack while the warning on the desk of the head of national security names who, what, when, where, and why!

1.7 million bucks still owed for a victory party is NOT the kind of dilapidation of our country we're used to reading about.

HUNDREDS of billions of taxpayer dollars, by the plane-load, dropped off on pallets along dusty Bagdad back roads, for so-called contractors waiting with pick-up trucks... with NO accountability!

THAT's the kind of money we expect the party with total hegemony to be owing.

Historically, DC always gets stiffed. That's why $220 million was one of the first things to go in the stimulus bill to maintain the city post-inauguration. Tourists will begin to arrive in droves with the first warm spell in March and our grounds look like mud, our streets look like crud and the thousands of police and city employees need to have their coffers refilled. Still, there are worse things--like the people losing their jobs and their homes to foreclosure. One thing at a time, folks.

And SO WHAT? This guy has done more for this CITY, too, than anyone in years and we thank him. The revenue generated between press and tourists before he left for the WH is probably twice that.
