Miltonista, if you, along with the rest of the hypocrite republicans had been as observant and critical of Bush/Cheney the past 8 longggggggggggggggggg a__ yearssssssssssssss, we WOULD NOT be at this disasterous point in our history. Take your negative thoughts and assumptions to the bloggs that will appreciate them, they ARE NOT wanted nor are they needed, we've had enough.

You'd better get used to us being here wanting to debate you... Too much is at stake to let this much misinformation and misdirected rage be echoing around in here.

The fact that you think we are at this disastrous point in our history because of bush is an example of this... Bush tried to REGULATE Fannie & Freddie back in 04 & 05, but the dems blocked it on a party-line vote... IF he was successful, then we wouldn't be here... this financial crisis is a result of government intervention, brought to us by the democrat party.

the sooner you learn this, the sooner we can avoid future economic crises...

You clearly have not read exactly what was proposed at that time and what it really would have done. Limbaugh talking points.

You seem to just repeat what you heardJoe and the other Repubs talking heads regarding the economic crisis. Yes, let us not blame Bush. Let us see if we can put the blame on Obama.

I voted for Bush and I seriously felt he spent to much time isolating himself from the truth of what was really going on in this country.. I don't expect Obama to fix every problem but the fact that he is trying to stay connected to the people who placed him in the White House and not just interested in those wo stroke his ego is a refreshing start.

I hope this practice will not end with him but gets better with every President to come.

The expression "intellectual midget" or the word "shallow" comes to mind after reading your nonsensical comment. If superficiality were the magnum causa of a person, you'd be leading the pack. I'd suggest you take a deep look at matters instead of being a brainwashed militant of the GOP. Now get lost.

I am so proud of my President, who listens to the people. To all of us. Who makes sure that everyone who works for him listens to us and knows what we are going through. The whole "DC bubble" era is over.

He makes me feel ashamed that I'm "too busy" to write to my friends and family sometimes. If he, with all his responsibilities, can write to the average Joe and Jane, I can do better. Thank you, Mr. President! You give me hope.

You are in for a rude awakening someday soon... i wish i could be there to see the expression on your face.

His time in chicago was not all sweetness and light... probably best that you don't learn his history. It would shatter this beautiful conception you have of him. Ignorance is bliss in this case.

Just because it is your wish, doesn't mean it is going to happen. What do you know about him from Chicago that was "not all sweetness and light," please feel free to enlighten us, instead of leaving such vague statements.

You play fast and loose with your own imagination because there is nothing to be shocked about regarding this president.

Did you know that hate is a form of flesh eating bacteria?

Just you keep it up.

Former President's Bush life has been sniffing coke, getting drunk, and playing businessman with his daddy's $15M no-strings-attached loan until he became Gov. of Texas which is a rather symbolic position in the State. Essentially, he's accomplished nothing in life before he was picked by the NeoCons (read NeoFascists) for name recognition. If after 8 years you did not have a rude awakening, I'd suggest you do not lecturing other people on this matter. Go find yourself a working brain, and try acquiring some intellect.

Why the heck do you suppose Obama got nominated and at such a huge rate? You repubs keep up this attitude and things will certainly not turn around. Your party needs some serious new direction.

You seem like a sensible person. Yet your statement "that government interventions are causing the major economic problems in this country" is so far from the truth that I have to question your motives.

You do remember that the Glass-Steagall Act was put into effect to prevent economic depressions like the Great Depression of the 20s and 30s, don't you? That regulatory safeguards prevented the massive shenanigans that have brought about a global economic collapse? You do remember who removed those safeguards, don't you? Phil Gramm, Republican author of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, which stripped oversight and safeguards. The same guy who was touted as McCain's economic advisor. Who said there was no economic crisis and called the American people "a bunch of whiners."

Of course, he has nothing to whine about, being fabulously wealthy as a result of donations from the banks and financial corporations that profited from his actions. He has now run the Swiss bank UBS into the ground. He won't suffer from that. We, who might have savings and retirement accounts in those banks, will.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:40 PM on 02/23/2009

Never mind that the Bush administration has wasted 5 trillion dollars in 8 years during which ZERO wealth accumulation has happened. The supply-side economics hypothesis on which the GOP has been relying on for so many decades has blown back on their faces. And you're still lecturing people here with utterly superficial ring wing talking points which have been debunked over and over again. I'd suggest you go check the spending under President Reagan, and the tax increases he had implement.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:39 PM on 02/24/2009

There is a time and place for everything. There is a time for intervention and time to let us grow. When you have the situation like the one we are in where those in the know don't seem to know their butt from their hands, it's time for some intervention. I don't expect Government to solve all of our problems, but there are times when they need to step in and this is one of them.

Bush wanted to regulate Freddy Mac and Fanny Mae but what happen to the other banks who were doing the same thing. Bush wanted to regulate a Government run banking system. He did not do anything about the private ones. Freddy and Fanny were not the only ones who collapsed. They were all doing the same thing. It's seem like the Repubs are more than happy to blame Government back banks for this collapse but ignore the private sector ones. I wonder why???

Another reason why I like our President. And it's not phoney baloney either. You can't make up all this stuff. He does care, he does want to know, he does want to hear from everyday Americans. More than I can say for the Republicans in Congress and most Rep Governors around the country. They are ONLY worried about their own job!

Would you like to be in President Obama's shoes right now? We elected this elequent man to lead our country and from what he has accomplished in just one month's time is incredible. He is on top of just about everything.
People have to give the Stim Pckg time. Can't people have patience! This is not going to work immediately. It may take 5 - 7 years.. People have to have patience. I do and will. My lifestyle has changed drastically from the real estate market here in AZ, heaven knows.
America has to pull together and hope for the best for our President Obama and our future.

5-7 years? OMG. This is ludicrous. This country does NOT need it then. In 5-7 years, HOEPFULLY, this economic crises will be long over with. If the dems keep spending money like the stimulus plan, then we won't be any better off in 5-7 years. This debt alone will crush the economy.

ok... will you think the same thing if his economic policies don't work? will you say that he cared so much?

the evil rethuglicans already know that his policies won't work... and they have alternatives which will stimulate economic activity... so, if the republicans know how to fix this, wouldn't you say that they care more than obama?

one day you'll see that obama is simply expanding the scope of government (which doesn't work) and retrench his voting base... but he doesn't care much about strengthening the economy...

he does not care about the whole country... he is a cynic

he won't be able to convince you that he cares for very long... at some point you're going to see thru it.

The most effective way to win adherents to your position is to tell the truth. Regretfully, your assertion that the republicans "have alternatives which will stimulate economic activity" is either blatantly false or ignorantly misleading. The fact of the matter is that the republican alternatives will improve the economic climate for those who need it least - the rich and powerful - while leaving the rank and file middle-class, working-class, and poor in a much worse situation. As an example, I cite the AMT (alternative minimum tax) which is a great burden to middle-class taxpayers. Under the proposed republican alternative, many more middle-class taxpayers will be negatively affected by the AMT. Republican economists, neutral economists, and Democratic economists have all pointed this out. Moreover, the CBO and the GAO have concurred.

The republicans have demonstrated an appalling lack of care for the concerns of working people in this country for nearly two decades. For me to believe that they have had a "come to Jesus" moment within the past thirty days would be nearly impossible.

He does care about the country. Bush and the republicans wouldn't even let protestors or ordinary citizens who *might* have a question within hearing distance. Obama reads five letters a day from the people who write to him.

At some point, you will see that he has already done more good for this country in one short month than the incompetent Republicans and Bush did in eight long, painful, suffering years.

Since President Clinton, it is so wonderful to have President Obama who really cares what the people thinking and is trying to help them in this economic crisis. The Bushes didn't care about anyone except themselves and their place in history.

Except the present evidence shows that Bush&Co picked the intelligence that proved their case and hid the intelligence that didn't in order to get Congress to fall in line. There needs to be an honest discussion of the facts in order for someone to make a decision properly.

Based on the EVIDENCE and fear most of US voted for the war...SADLY, we did....

What I love about the Repubs is how they choose to look at things. They still think the war in Iraq was necessary and kept us safe even with the admittance of Bush that the info he had was erronous. Yet, they see the crisis we are in as not that bad and really over blown. They spent billions on an unnecessary war many eventually woke up too and was against. Yet, they refuse to spend a dime to fix the crisis many feel needs to be dealt with quickly.

Talk about being out of touch..

Just listening to McCain atempted at challenging Obama over the price of Hellicopters while he sat there and did nothing about it under Bush is laughable. He even introduced, on the floor, a Stimulus Package that gave more money to the same Defense Department that I am sure he is slamming Obama about. While giving very little but tax cuts to the same people he pretends to be for.

Totally out of Touch..

I've not been a pie-eyed supporter of Obama as I think there has been a lot of political cynicism shown in his appointments to the cabinet, especially Geithner and Summers, but my goodness this is inspiring. This is 3560 real Americans that get to communicate with the POTUS a year. This and the town meetings without pre-screened questions may be political theater, but I don't care. He actually gets to hear the concerns of actual people.

I've grumbled and stomped my feet when I've seen some of the waffling over state secrets, war crimes prosecutions, TARP decisions, etc., but it's this kind of act that allows me to feel that there is more to Obama than Clintonian political wonkery and triangulation.

I have the tendency to see through the p r o p a g a n d a and get to the bottom line. Sorry if this is not something you, as a Liberal, are used to. It is called "getting to the bottom line" .

I am not disgruntled. Ya'll won, remember? I keep hearing this from the left "we won, get over it". I AM over it. Maybe you should take the same advice. Get over it. Simply because the dems control the White House, Senate, and House does NOT mean that people who have different opinions should change their way of thinking. Someone has to be around to clean up this mess once 4 years is over. Look what the dems have done in ONE MONTH.

The stock market down 2500 points
Billions and billions of MORE debt to the American taxpayer
Socialized medicine being forced won our throat.
Real Estate at an all-time low.

If YOU like the way Obama is doing things, that is YOUR decision. I happen to NOT agree.
