VASSALBORO, Maine — Cup size has more than one meaning at a new central Maine coffeehouse. Servers are topless at the Grand View Topless Coffee Shop, which opened its doors Monday on a busy road in Vassalboro. A sign outside says, "Over 18 only." Another says, "No cameras, no touching, cash only."

On Tuesday, two men sipped coffee at a booth while three topless waitresses and a bare-chested waiter stood nearby. Topless waitress Susie Wiley said men, women and couples have stopped by.

The coffee shop raised the ire of dozens of residents when it went before the town planning board last month. Town officials said the coffee shop met the letter of the law.

In our town north of Seattle we have Bikini Madness drive-thru espresso stands...in the SUMMER. I don't find it offensive and wouldn't mind if my daughter took a job at oneof them...BUT I do worry about the safety issues being around hot steam. I once ironed a blouse fresh out of the shower, reached over to unplug the iron and burned a nipple. OUCH!!!!!

I can empathize with the wives of the guys who are spending their $$$ ogling at the boobs instead of taking care of household expenses....like the wives of guys who overspend at the local bars and taverns when they could buy a six-pack for much less. You can see boobs for free on the 'net, right?

So let's say I am flat chested and applied for a job at this coffee shop in Maine. I do not get hired of course, due to my flat chestedness, would this be considered employment discrimination?

Um, if they're hiring dudes, I'm assuming the IBTC is welcome, too.

Some men prefer flat or small or natural chested women. If the proprietor is smart, s/he would opt for as much diversity as possible among the staff..........

Context is everything. In this context, breasts are not hot. It would be like going to a strip joint with all the lights on.

It's a sure fire gimmick to get media attention, and it works. I live thousands of miles away from Maine and have never been to this little town (Lavannofil (sp?)) and I know that there is a topless coffee shop there. "Entrepreneurial" people are perpetually coming up with absurd topless businesses. Like, topless pet grooming salons, topless car washes, topless maid services, topless coffee shops, topless driver education classes (to get out of tickets), topless.........

Invariably these "news" articles are picked up by national media and serve as red meat for the feminist exploitation crowd. In practice, these businesses typically fail quickly after the novelty of the initial shock, outrage, and contempt fade. This is of course, not reported.

When men want their cars washed, they are concerned about value and quality of the WASH. Few are willing to pay $50 for a mediocrely provided $20 car wash, even if it is hand rubbed by a topless attendant. When men want their houses cleaned, they want their house cleaned.......coffee.....coffee.........

For my foray into the topless business, I'm thinking of establishing a topless funeral home..............maybe a topless flooring gallery..............how about a topless nursery...................

These topless business articles merely allow the objectification crowd to hit play on the vent tape........

$1000 say that in a year, the topless coffee shop in Bumphuck Maine is no more.................

Jealous of what? Being desperate enough for either money or desperate enough to have to look at someone's breasts bouncing around? These are desperate times and this reminds me of "They Shoot Horses Don't They " - a movie about dance marathons during the Depression.

"The ones who complain are just jealous."

If you really believe that, you flunked seventh grade. Remember, when we were all embarrassed about these strange parts that were suddenly protruding from our bodies, and we figured out how to deal with it intellectually and emotionally? Only maybe you didn't? If you don't really believe it, otoh, you flunked second grade.

"Remember when we were all embarrassed..."

You might consider asking me if others were embarrassed, rather than assuming your experience is universal. We often project our own difficult feelings onto others. This keeps us from noticing potentially useful or enjoyable differences.

I'm a woman and this kind of stuff does not bother me at all. if there is a market for it, why not? I wish Americans weren't so damn prudish.

I wonder how many of the patrons (and the waitresses for that matter) vote republican and rant against Gay rights and talk about family values etc. The issue is not bare chested babes working at a job that implies coffee, tea or me but the hypocrisy of some of the patrons. If women want to put themselves out there like that so as to make a buck, that's their buisness but any of them voting for the GOP just shows the limitations of their beliefs in worn-out ideology is.

This is fantastic!

How wonderful that ladies have access to a better standard of living, making the world a more beaufiful place at the same time!

During the cultural revolution of the 60s, I'd thought that American had finally shrugged off it's Puritan
repressive roots and impliment sexual equality.

But the Christian Right Wing was able to squish it rather quickly. I hope that this becomes a 'trend' which will go a long way toward marginalization of the repressive, 'Palinesque' Right Wing fanatic ideology which (coincedentally) typifies those who've fomented the war atrocities of our recent history.

'You Go. Girls!'
