John Oliver

On the first new "Daily Show" in over a week, John Oliver compared Barack Obama's historic win in November to Hugh Jackman's "historic" rise to Oscar host. He claimed both men were able to come to power because of the incompetence of their predecessors.

Stewart hosted both the 78th and 80th Academy Awards and joked on his show that the Oscars must not be happening this year because he wasn't asked to MC. Oliver went on to eviscerate Stewart for laying "two massive turds on that stage" and praise Jackman as:

"...charisma stuffed inside a Greek god coated in raw talent, and garnished with what I can only imagine is a spectacular Australian c**k."

Speaking of George W. Bush:

George W. Bush committed hate crimes of epic proportions and with the stench of terrorism (indicated in my blog).

George W. Bush did in fact commit innumerable hate crimes.

And I do solemnly swear by Almighty God that George W. Bush committed other hate crimes of epic proportions and with the stench of terrorism which I am not at liberty to mention.

Many people know what Bush did.

And many people will know what Bush did—even to the end of the world.

Bush was absolute evil.

Bush is now like a fugitive from justice.

Bush is a psychological prisoner.

Bush has a lot to worry about.

Bush can technically be prosecuted for hate crimes at any time.

In any case, Bush will go down in history in infamy.

“GEORGE W. BUSH IS THE WORST PRESIDENT IN U.S. HISTORY” BLOG OF ANDREW YU-JEN WANG

I am not sure where I had read it before, but anyway, it is a linguistically excellent statement, and it goes kind of like this: “If only it were possible to ban invention that bottled up memory so it never got stale and faded.” Oh wait—off the top of my head—I think the quotation came from my Lower Merion High School yearbook.

Oh, God, I'm sick of the Oscars. All the great political things that happened the week before and we just get Oscar drivel from John. Put me out of my misery and get back to what you folks do best, John.

This is even funnier because JS has a sense of humor about himself. He made fun of himself better than anyone else could have!

I love this. John Oliver is brilliantly deadpan as usual. He can say the most absurd things in such a matter of fact way, "they rotate counter-clockwise". And Aasif! "Was he in Slumdog? Probably, I think they all were". :)

I love it that Jon now takes each Oscar season as an opportunity to have his writers just flay into him as a joke.

It's awesome.

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert make up the funniest hour on TV. They need to join forces with Bill Maher for a series of politcal humor specials.

it's probably smart of jon to poke fun of himself before other people do.

For comparison, Jackman's was the third lowest rated telecast ever.

Stewart's last was the lowest, but his first was higher than Jackman's. And the second lowest was Steve Martin's. Martin was great this year but I don't remember much of his hosting, I don't think it was that well received.

And to be fair, a major part of the ratings comes down to the nominations. Everyone agrees that Whoopi was one of the worst hosts ever, but when it's between Saving Private Ryan and Shakespeare in Love, there will be a huge audience regardless of how awful the host is.

I love seeing Steve Martin. Don't know why he or Billy Crystal aren't doing more. Guess I'm now officially an old timer. But I love Jon; he shouldn't be blamed for the ratings. I am not dissing Jackman at all but I like humor in these shows.

I hope Hugh Jackman hosts for the next several Oscars.

I'd probably stop tuning in if the writing continues to be as bad as it was.

Why not go back to what they did in the old days and have MULTIPLE hosts?

Have someone who is a solid song and dance man/woman AND a solid comedian who can bring some humor and ad lib some material?
