Barack Obama's first address to Congress started with a funny and slightly awkward moment, as the president began speaking without being introduced. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi interrupted Obama, so she could give him a formal introduction. Watch:

I am very proud of Speaker Pelosi and President Obama. Enough said. Thanks for stopping by everyone. Nothing to see here. Get moving now.

she didn't "interrupt" him. They began talking at the same time. He forgot to wait for her to introduce him, as you said, before he started making his speech. She was only doing what she was supposed to.

Don't EVER make me defend her again!!! LOL. I don't like her much.

How come people never seem to comment about the MALE politicians obvious cosmetic surgery? John McCain is a good example. He looks much more freakish than Pelosi. It's far more unnatural for men to be so concerned with trying to be "pretty".

Pelosi was the best thing about the speech... when she lept to her feet it looked like she was going to fall over a couple of times... and when she sat there smiling she looked like a puppet in a phil collins video

Forget the negative crap from the Repugnicans this morning, I thought President Obama's speech was inspiring and hopeful! We're with our present administration ALL THE WAY!

And by the way, I thought Nancy Pelosi was sexy as hell last night, She can cheer for me anytime!!!

Was it me or did those sour-faced Republicans look like they'd seen a ghost or something last night, all the white hair in the room was frightening!! Can't wait until all those old foggies are gone for good and there's YOUTHFUL Congressmen helping our new president accomplish things!

Wow, all the nit picking today about Nancy.
Fact is she was right, there is a protocol that must be followed, so give the lady a break will ya. This is much to do about nothing.

Other wise a fine speach, I was going to skip it for a movie, but after it started I was glued to the tv. Go President Obama, I am with you all the way.
As far as Jindal, wow, I could not take it any more, had to turn him off. If this is the best the republican party can do, they are in worse condition than I thought.

If Oboma speaks out of turn at a summit or such thing it could be a big deal.( The V.N. peace talks were delayed for mounths over the shape of the table they all would be sitting at). And he did have to take the presidental oath a 2nd time. He has no expirience at this type of thing. I just hope he's a quick learner.

Pelosi "grilled" or "quizzed" or "confronted the Prez.

I see a lot of feigned outrage at Pelosi from the Right which can be expected. They need someone to criticize and Obama is too difficult. Also, maybe some residual angst from a few citizens who were profoundly disappointed with her for taking impeachment of Bush off the table.
She's done a fantastic job as Speaker and as for her smiling, all of us who love America are smiling. We now have something to smile about.

LCL I'd love for you to specify the "fantastic job" Speaker Pelosi did.
I seem to also remember her seeming the same for the final SOTU with lying crooked Bush.
I think that expression's plastered on her face.

For starters, after six long years of Republican leadership and complete lack of oversight of our totally corrupt administration, the Pelosi led congress restored accountability and fiscal responsibility.
Then, specifically, they passed legislation to increase the minimum wage, implemented the 9/11 commission, rolled back subsidies for Big Oil, reinvested in renewable energy and energy efficiency, passed legislation to invest in stem cell research (vetoed by Bush), tried to renew s-chip (vetoed by Bush).
This in spite of obstructionist Republicans and President Bush who show absolutely no empathy for the American people, she accomplished quite a bit.
Imagine how much she can accomplish with President Obama - a person who cares about people.
Remember how the right-wing-lunatic-fringe attacked Pelosi for needing a bigger airplane to fly home in than Hassert? All they needed to do was take out a map and look at it. Even they would have been able to see that California is farther away from DC than Illinois.
Bottom line is right-wingers will look for any excuse to attack Pelosi. Rational thought is beyond their abilities.

This was the first presidential speech I've listened to since Clinton. It is actually pleasureable to listen to Obama speak. It was far too uncomfortable and emabarassing to listen to George the Lesser speak at all. What a contrast!
