I Like ItI Don’t Like It

As we've mentioned, Bobby Jindal is Kenneth the page: They're both Southern, both weirdly religious, and both have the tendency to look like they're dressing up in their fathers' suits.

Well, Jack McBrayer (who plays Kenneth the page on "30 Rock") has responded to these accusations comparisons on Jimmy Fallon's test show for "Late Night" and thanks to our fabulous blogger Jon Friedman, we have it first.

It's sad, it's raw, it's important for you to see.

Just heard on 60 minutes that Jindal CHANGED HIS FIRST NAME!!! Didn't know that. I can't spell his given Indian name but he said the name "Bobby" stuck so he legally changed it. Now, wasn't Obama taken to task during the campaign for changing his name too? I'm firmly convinced that when a Republican speaks, just think of the opposite and that's usually the truth.

That was hilarious. Although, the reveal gag of the actor's not really where they say they are as they stand in front of a screen has been done countless times on The Daily Show, it was still funy. And if this is any indication of Jimmy's take on Late Night, I'll take it. I can't wait to see his first show tomorrow night. Jimmy seems a lot more likeable than Conan who always spent the first five minutes of each show doing the same lame "make fun of the audience's noises" jokes which I don't think is going to translate at all to the 11:35 p.m. crowd. Kick ass, Jimmy!

Kenneth the page is so likeable. So is Bobby Jindel for that matter. But I wouldn't want either to be president.

Kenneth the page, maybe. Jindal, not so much. He performed an exorcism on his former girlfriend.

Who in America is funny enough to replace Conan? And compete with Ferguson?

Maybe Stewart or Colbert, but why would they want to? They have total control of their own shows now.

But they couldn't do better than Jimmy Falon?

Funny how you libs can make fun of minorities and Christians without any degree of tolerance. If Jindal were a lib you would scream racism in a heartbeat. If you want real funny, check out some Barney Frank, Joe Biden or Nancy Pelosi - what a bunch of idiots. You are true hypocrites.

Funny how the Conservatives have to grab at incompetent party members who just so happen to be minorities and push them onto national stages to appeal to the American people.

Yeah, that's not offensive.

Nope.

Not at all.

Hi Centermom.
It is great to have a forum like this one, where we can voice our opinions. I agree with the underlying concern in your post; that our country is still not free or bigotry and intolerance as is often evidenced in ways both subtle * and decidedly blatant** .
However, In my view the yuks over the similarity between Bobby Jindal and "Kenneth the Intern" are not at all racist as you suggest. Kinda the opposite if you think about it; similarity, rather than differences are being compared.

The Jindal jocularity is based on his mannerisms and speaking style, not his ethnicity, nor his beliefs.

As to Joe Biden - you should see the way he is parodied on SNL; really funny!
SNL has also done Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Barney Frank.

All of the above get plenty of heat in the Politicalcartoonosphere, too.

sincerely yours, eek

* remember the two news photos taken during the Katrina aftermath?
both pictures were essentially the same , content-wise apart from one photo was of white folks, the other was of black folks.
The white folks in one picture were called "foragers".
In the other picture, the black folks were called "looters".

** The "Watermelon Email".

It's not about making fun of minorities. It's HOW you make fun of minorities. There was nothing remotely racist about this skit. There were no fried chicken jokes, no watermelon on the White House lawn, and no monkey dolls with Obama's name on them. It was making fun of Jindal sounding like Kenneth the Page, in both mannerisms and the fact that he sounded like he didn't know what he was talking about.

I could have just insulted you like everyone else, but I'm honestly trying to get you to see the difference between racist jokes and jokes on a particular person's character. Racist jokes dismisses someone completely just because of their ethnicity, but poking fun of someone because they kinda sound gumpy is not racist.

Jimmy Fallon is forehead-smackingly unfunny. Five bucks says Craig Ferguson's ratings go through the roof against this guy.

Oh, so he's the kid who disappeared? The one who trashed up the school buses and then had to get out of town quick.

I don't get it. Quirky, cute, but like most of Jimmy Fallon's attempts at comedy, not funny. It didn't bust a gut with me. The idea was funny, but the material wasn't that good. Even the audience didn't seem more than amused.

i agree. They are so afraid that we aren't going to get it. They have to explain everything like we're all a bunch of hicks from Iowa.

Look!!! He's not in his apartment!!! Audience, see? He's not in his apartment. Like we said he was. He's right here!! Not in his apartment. Like your led to believe a few minutes ago. See? He's looking at me. NOT from his apartment. Get it?

A quick glance would have done it. Show more respect for your audience. Most of them could have out-written this talent-wasting skit.

At least Fallon's show avoid SNL's wearisome propensity for drrraaaggggiiiinnnng sketches out well past their "sell-by' date.
