LOS ANGELES — The woman who was with Morgan Freeman the night of a car crash that injured both of them insists she was never romantically linked to Freeman and is suing the actor for negligence. Demaris Meyer and her lawyer, Gloria Allred, held a news conference Wednesday announcing that Meyer has filed a lawsuit against the 71-year-old Academy Award winner.

"I have been labeled as the other woman and have been accused of having caused the breakup of Mr. Freeman's marriage," Meyer said. "Nothing could be further from the truth. I had hoped and prayed that Mr. Freeman or his representatives would have set the record straight and cleared my name, but they have not done so and that is why I have chosen to come forward to tell the truth about our relationship."

In the days after the accident last August, Freeman's lawyer, Bill Luckett, told media outlets that Freeman and his wife of 24 years, Myrna Colley-Lee, had been separated since December 2007 and were getting a divorce. Several media outlets reported that the 48-year-old Meyer was Freeman's mistress.

Meyer said Wednesday she met Freeman the night of the accident at a dinner party at the Bayou Bend Golf and Country Club that she had been invited to by Luckett. Meyer said Freeman had been a "perfect gentleman" that evening and agreed to let her stay at one of three houses on his property, so that she "would have an easier drive to work the next morning."

Allred said the accident occurred when Freeman was driving Meyer's car with Meyer in the passenger seat from Luckett's home in Clarksdale, Miss., to Freeman's property in Charleston, Miss., some 40 miles away.

Meyer would not comment on whether Freeman was drinking that night or specify what caused the accident that left the actor with a broken arm, broken elbow and shoulder damage. Meyer's injuries included a broken left wrist, right scapula and a torn labrum.

"The accident and its aftermath has literally changed my life in every respect," Meyer said. "I sustained numerous injuries. I was unconscious following the accident ... I could not take care of myself for several months. I have not been able to go back to work and still am suffering both physically and emotionally as a result of the accident."

The lawsuit claims that Freeman failed to keep a proper lookout, maintain attention, keep the vehicle under control and obey the posted speed limit.

Meyer is suing for medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages, permanent disability and property damage. Allred did not specify how much in damages that Meyer, who worked as an executive assistant, is seeking with the lawsuit filed with the U.S. District Court in Northern Mississippi. She said that Freeman has only provided "minimal support" for Meyer following the accident.

Freeman, who won an Oscar for his performance in 2004's "Million Dollar Baby," co-starred in last summer's "The Dark Knight." His screen credits also include "Bruce Almighty," "The Shawshank Redemption" and "Driving Miss Daisy."

Freeman and Meyer were traveling on a dark, two-lane highway that cuts through the expansive farmlands of the Mississippi Delta when the car ran off the side of the road, authorities said last August. The vehicle flipped several times but landed upright in a ditch about 5 miles west of Charleston.

"We're confident this will all be resolved," Freeman's publicist, Ken Sunshine, said Wednesday.

What an opportunistic byatch! It's Mississippi, so I wouldn't be surprised if this case went far for "historical" reasons....

I had a feeling that this story was going to have a BAD ending for Morgan. But, there has to be
more to this story. I hope this woman's life is in order because everything about her is about to be
EXPOSED.

CAN YOU SPELL GOLDDIGGER??????????????

PEACE

"No comment on whether he was drinking or not..." Puleeze. Let me be on a jury for this woman. I wouldn't give her a dime. Let her insurance company handle it. It was her car. She didn't seem to mind when she agreed to get into her own car while Freeman drove.

And she's only 48!!! She looks much older in the picture with this article. Gloria Allred is an ambulance chaser. One time I thought she was all for women's rights until she represented the mistress of Scott Peterson.

Well, if she let him drive her car, probably means she was the one that was dr.un.k. Her injuries sound like the sort of thing the insurance company will pay for. Subject over. It is not as if she has had "permanent" damage. She is trying to work this in to some sort of personal crisis for her. I don't buy it.

You're a grown woman who meets a movie star at a party for the first time. This is where something smells. He's driving her car to his property where he is allowing her to stay in one of his houses....Why? Is he driving her car ? Why isn't he in his car and she in her car driving to his house? Where is his car or his driver? Who allows you to stay on his property in one of his houses and he just met you? Were you too drunk to drive? Why else would you need to stay at one of his homes overnight...to sleep it off? If you are both single there is nothing wrong with hankypanky...so what's the problem in Mississippi with a white woman taking a ride from a black man... except she didn't count on it becoming public. Is she now being shunned and is using this suit to save her reputation...in Mississippi?

Men Men Men...no matter how honorable Morgan may have been, he should have learned a long time ago men fooling around or even helping women they do not know is really really really stupid.
I figure he probably knows it now.

Celebrites know the more you protest, the more you're hiding something...

Ok, I will say it again - I am from Mississippi - actually live pretty close to where this happened. Racially mixed couples do not get a second look here. Nobody is "shunned", lynched, or anything else when they date someone of another race. Yes, we still have racists here, just like they do in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. But the majority do not care who you date, I assure you. This is 2009,not 1969. Even in Mississippi.

If Gloria Allred is involved. . i don't pay any attention. I'd say more but she'd sue me.

Get in a car with an intoxicated driver and then sue the driver for crashing the car? Way to take responsibility for your poor decision.

I don't know about anyone else on this board, but I ALWAYS give my car keys to men I meet at gatherings, so that they can drive me to one of their many homes, in order for me to get to work the next day.

I just assumed EVERY WOMAN does this. Is that not the case????? LOL!

Gloria's been very busy lately. Earlier this week it was Ocotomom and now It's Ms. Daisey.
Demaris Meyer, face it Morgan Freeman was RIDING your Ms. Daisey, not driving it.

I have a question for some legal person out there. Why is this filed in Federal Court? Should this not be in court in the county where it happened? Just curious. Ole Gloria is going to have a hard time in Mississippi against Morgan Freeman state or federal court. He is very loved here.

Diversity Jurisdiction. Not sure if Morgan was residing in TN/MS or was it Myers, also the accident occurred in TN. Therefore, federal court would be appropriate venue when an issue of differing jurisdictions are confronted.

Correction, accident occurred in MS and federal court is probably as a result of Myers probably taking up resident elsewhere. But it is probably due to diverse jurisdictions. I will research it more.

Another example of a gold digger...This happened in August 2008, and NOW she decides to sue him. She just met him(according to her), let him drive HER 40 miles in her car to HIS property, and because she got hurt now it's time to get a high-profile lawyer to sue him. Bull!!! I hope the judge laughs her and her lawyer out of court!

Yeah. There's no way I'd let any man I just met drive me 5 miles, let alone 40 plus stay on his property. Sounds like this woman was use to going home with strange men.

Just like the Kobe Bryant case where his accused had 3 different seman samples in her panties but cried r*a*p*e. SMH...

She's from Mississippi, works and lives in Mississippi, the accident occurred in Mississippi, but she hired the most visible and celebrity lawyer from Hollywood.

Go figure.
